Publisher's summary

From WSJ best-selling Author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new stand-alone contemporary romance.

Fake engaged to the hottest quarterback in the country? Score.

They say nothing compares to your first kiss, but our first kiss was orchestrated for an audience.

Our second kiss...that one was real.

He cradled my face like he was terrified he'd f--k it up.

He stared into my eyes until the air buzzed.

Soft and slow, full of sighs and little laughs, he inhaled me like I was the finest Belgian chocolate, and he'd never get another piece.

A nip of his teeth, his hand at my waist...and I was lost.

I forgot he was paying me to be his fake fiancée.

I forgot we weren't real.

Our kiss was pure magic, and before you laugh and say those kinds of kisses don't exist, then you've never touched lips with Max Kent, the hottest quarterback in college history.

Three months. Two hearts. One fake engagement.

Great Narration Made it Even Better!

I wanted to grab a quick standalone from Ilsa Madden Mills before seeing her at Wicked Book Weekend, so I grabbed Fake Fiancée , and I was so excited for it! I am thrilled to say it was just what I was looking for. With new-to-me narrators I loved, and a quick and humorous story that had romance, suspense, banter and sexiness, Fake Fiancée just worked for me.

At 17, Sunny is escaping from her life when a gorgeous stranger saves her. There was an instant connection but she ran off. I have to tell you, I felt that zing between them and couldn’t wait for them to meet again.

"I wished I knew his name. I wished... I wished fate would bring us together again some other time, some other place. But not today. With one last lingering look at his face, I turned and ran into the woods."

Fate stepped in three years later when Sunny transferred schools and lives next to the handsome stranger, who is also the quarterback up for the Heisman. He is all about staying out of trouble and keeping his focus, on and off the field. He has groupies and exes that don’t leave him alone, but he is serious and focused and needs to find a way to get rid of all the clingers. Sunny is paying her own way in college and could really use extra cash, so Max comes up with a solution. They pretend to be together.

“It wasn’t about the pretending. I could be a fake girlfriend. It was my body that was the problem. I wanted Max Kent.”

They both wanted each other, but were both badly burned by exes, so they developed a strong friendship that slowly morphed into more.

“Time and time again, I was taken aback by his off-the-charts hotness. But it wasn’t his looks that tugged at my heart. Not really. It was him—his innate charm that made me want to strangle him one second and then hug him the next.”

It was a slow burn, but one I thoroughly enjoyed. You know when a book just works for you? It hits every button and you just breeze through it? Fake Fiancée was that book for me. And for me right now, getting a book to really grab my attention has been tough.

"Since the night we’d met on that shore, an invisible thread connected us."

Likes:
•A sweet, fun and easy read.
•Likable characters and side characters.
•Sunny is strong and sassy.
•It felt honest and real.
•Good mix of angst, romance, drama and sexy times.
•I love standalones!

Dislikes:
•I felt like we could have gotten to know the characters better. It was very surface-only.
•The end wrapped up a little quickly.

The Narration:
I’m so excited I found new narrators to love! Yvonne Syn was perfect. She hasn’t done a lot of straight romance, but did lesbian erotoca before this year. Alastair Haynesbridge had a totally great voice and was perfect for the part. I will be on the lookout for more from them.

The Down & Dirty:
Fake Fianceé by Ilsa Madden-Mills was a fun, sexy and angsty way to spend a day or two, because that’s all it will take to read this fast paced book. While it may not stick with me forever, it was a wonderful escape. I look forward to getting it signed at Wicked Book Weekend!

Was Surprised

I was prepared not to really like this, but it was really well written.

Without giving away too much, I thought the protagonists were younger than I would be able to relate to, they are still in college and I have a 28 year old son. But, they were written with maturity and their characters were well developed with a clear understanding of who they were and what they wanted in life.

There is a mystery, some angst, the sex was relatable ( not a virginal first love scenario). The story arch makes sense as well, you understand the connection and the love builds naturally.

The narrators were well chosen for the characters and did a great job.

Highly recommend. Might listen to this one again.

Fake Fiancee

When it starts off with Sunny's car crashing its a little confusing because it doesn't tell you what shes running from, when shes rescued. Jump ahead a few years, shes having a bad "car" day & goes to confront her neighbors about one of their girlfriend's leaving & hitting her car...this starts off the journey for Sunny & Max. Sunny is grumpy & standoffish & Max is tired of everyone wanting something from him but when Sunny shows up at Max's door & threatens to call the cops if they don't open the door she intrigues Max because she won't put up with his "garbage".
I thought the story line was good and the characters flowed really well together. Although...for a college group...where does Max get all his money from? Sunny is working her but off to make ends meat & yet Max seems to have a whole lot of money he can just throw around.
All in all I enjoyed it & would recommend it.

Realistic

Amazing true life feeling to the story line that chance first meetings can be meant to be.

Cute Story

I felt that the female voice could have acted out the story better, but overall it was good.
