Great book, horrible narration and worse cover.

The narrator sounds like she's reading erotica, and the cover is everything Elizabeth Hawes hated about the fashion industry. Did anyone read the book before they hired these people? Normally I love Audible, but I'm disappointed by what you've done to the work of a really good author.

History, Fashion, True Story and Good Narration

Elizabeth Hawes is an unsung hero of the fashion industry. I did read the previous review slamming narration and pronunciation but listened to the sample and took a chance. Glad I did. The words were all pronounced correctly, some french phrases, perhaps they didn't understand the other language? There should be a movie based on this book and early 1900's era of Elizabeth Hawes' life. The text and narrator were both above par. Don't believe the haters. Clearly this is a human voice, a real person who invested a lot of time in producing this audiobook.

Great for those with an interest in fashion history / horrible horrible performance

What audible isn't telling you is that this was written in 1938- not 2015.
Elizabeth Hawes was an American designer who writes about the fashion industry of the 1920s and 1930s. She would turn over in her grave if she saw the awful cover that has been put on the 2015 reprint. The cover is very misleading.
I personally enjoyed the content because I am familiar with the subject - but struggled to get through the audio book. It is so poorly read, with endless mispronunciations. awkward pauses and misleading or random inflections that I can only conclude that it is actually read by a computer program - it seems impossible that an actual Hunan could read a book this badly.
