Publisher's summary

Maverick author Hunter S. Thompson introduced the world to "gonzo journalism" with this cult classic that shot back up the best seller lists after Thompson's suicide in 2005. No book ever written has more perfectly captured the spirit of the 1960s counterculture. In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

A rare situation where the move was better.

This was so worth the money I was walking around work laughing at the craziness of these guys. I liked the movie so much better, but what a great read. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get a little more than what the movie had to offer.

Brilliant narration

Ron McLarty’s narration is faultless and brings the characters to life. Wickedly funny and a wild ride

Charmingly Vile

Hunter Thompson's alter ego is sweetly disgusting, amoral, and miraculously inmocent. Delicious dialogue and rhetoric.

Excellent book. Narrator not so much.

Narrator does not capture or illustrated the unique voice & delivery timing that are signature Hunter S. Thompson.

The book is great, but would be 300% better if:
1. It was unabridged, and
2. It was narrated by Johnny Depp - no one else on Earth can portray Hunter S. Thompson as well as Johnny!

Maybe it will get re-recorded by Johnny Depp for the "Anniversay Edition"

Fear And Loathing : A Journey to Becoming a Junkie

Hunter S. Thompson is both a genius and a lunatic. Seemed hard to follow at some points, but enjoyable all the way through.

ok

The story is great but I personally didn't care for the narrator. Very crazy story better than the movie.

The book is great. A legitimate and accurate insight in to the heart of American values at that age.

I enjoyed the narrator

This guy sounds gritty and I like it. I was let down that it wasn't hunter or Depp voice that I've come to imagine for hunter. But this guy did a good job. Great book
