Publisher's summary

A suspenseful, absorbing novel that examines the complexities of friendship, It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell will keep listeners guessing right up to its shocking conclusion.

“A riveting tale of love, hate, and murder.” (Us Weekly)

“A page-turning whodunit that will speak to anyone who’s ever had a frenemy.” (Ruth Ware, best-selling author of The Woman in Cabin Ten)

“Fans of Gillian Flynn, meet your next obsession.” (BuzzFeed)

Meet Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny.

They first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, despite their many differences. Kate was beautiful, wild, wealthy, and damaged. Aubrey came from the wrong side of the tracks, and wanted more than anything to distance herself from her past. Jenny was brilliant, ambitious, and determined to win big at all costs. As an unlikely alliance formed, Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny swore they would always be friends.

Twenty years later, the three women - all married, and deemed successful by any measure - are together again. But one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge…and someone is urging her to jump. How did it come to this? Who is to blame? Is it true that it’s always the husband who commits the worst crimes against his wife - or is someone else behind a sinister plot to tear these three women apart?

Doesn’t disappoint!

Campbell takes you into the story. You feel as though you know the characters. When the story turns into a mystery it doesn’t disappoint. It’s riveting.

GREAT until the last few chapters

This story was very good and it kept me listening until the final 9 or so chapters and then it seemed that the author got tired and rushed much and left too many things opened...and it is not like these specific items could be a new book...we just will never know!!

Not sure I liked any of the characters

An easy listen. However, I’m still not sure why these people would be friends. I definitely wouldn’t want any of these backstabbers as my best friend.

Fantastic Book and Performance

Jenny, Audrey, and Kate were college roommates, and have stayed in touch through the years. A 20 year old secret binds them together, and any one of them would be damaged if the truth were known. When one of the three is found dead, the potential reasons are legion.

Campbell seamlessly switches between college years and the present. Her characters are living and real. The plot is easily believed, well plotted, and gives a great surprise. Her prose is engaging and, despite the lack of real suspense, riveting. Overall, this was an exceptionally good novel and I universally recommend it.

A note on the narrator: Ms. LaVoy was excellent and, if anything, added to the strength of the novel by her perfect performance.

Twists & Turns Galore

I really enjoyed this book, the ending definitely makes you second guess everything. Don't assume you figured it out, because odds are you didn't! and by the end you will what to audibly say "What?!" lol

Worth the credit or money I'd say!

Great Narration

I felt that this was a slow building burn for sure. Though it had many plot twists yet characters were unlikeable and annoying. The web of relationships seemed laborsome and I only kept reading just to find out whodunit. I felt like it went on longer than it should have and the switches in the beginning were sometimes confusing.
