Publisher's summary

In a world beset by plagues, Tyrus of Kenatos has made it his life’s work to end the devastation.

Yet when he first ventures into the Scourgelands to uncover the secret of the plagues’ origin, he barely makes it out alive after being ambushed by a mysterious, unseen enemy.

Tyrus knows the plagues will rise again - more powerful than ever before - and he is determined to complete his mission. To aid in his new quest, he summons his nephew Annon and his niece Hettie - both of whom possess an innate magic called the fireblood - and a pack of unlikely allies.

But as the group sets out on its journey, the ruthless ruler of Kenatos, the Arch-Rike, has other plans - deploying a legion of minions who will stop at nothing to destroy them. For if they succeed, the truth will be revealed: about a Druidecht secret of a forgotten magical race, a deadly betrayal, and a hidden child who could be the key to banishing the plagues.

❤️ Anything by Jeff Wheeler

I love Jeff Wheeler books! Muirwood and King King Fountain series are my absolute favs however Fireblood does not disappoint! I wasn’t sure if id get pulled into this storyline as much as I have with prior series (it’s different) but by mid point I was highly engrossed! I’ve read this book twice now (along w all of my JW favs). He does an excellent job keeping readers engaged and weaving stories with multiple layers of suspense/complexity. Books 2 & 3 of this series have a female narrator which I do prefer for the characters/setting. Great book overall!! I will continue to read about any new worlds JW conjures up in the future!

Fireblood

Good book. I enjoyed it.

The main character is intriguing along with his branch of magic and it’s lore.

I like how a few have an over powered trump card, but how the author made its usage depleted in the tale. This keeps things from running away from the characters but keeps anything from being easy and the story becoming boring.

I also enjoy the fact that I’m seeing some of the magic or tech that I saw in previous works that were obviously transplants from this world to that one, (Kingfountain)(a great story).

Page did a good job with the performance.

Interesting listen

Very fun story not quite what I expected but that's part of its charm. Fantasy is by far my favorite genre and this book gave me a new world to explore.

So happy I purchased this!

Honestly, I have a very guilty pleasure that is listening to bodice rippers while doing menial tasks around the house. The issue is that I then have to keep my headset on at all times for shame of the shoddy prose I willingly subject myself to, and I long for the freedom that are speakers. Due to this, Jeff Wheeler's books are an awesome treat! I get to be truly drawn in to an epic story with fabulously constructed worlds and characters, be free of earbuds for a while and still not have to freak out and pause it whenever my little girl enters the room in a way I may have to if I were to be enjoying something along the lines of Game of Thrones.

A great start to what I imagine will be an excellent series/trilogy! I wholeheartedly recommend it!

interesting series

This is another interesting series by Jeff Wheeler. It took a little longer to get into it than the Kingfountain or Mir wood series, but I am enjoying it

Love the book, the narration was distracting

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Just the narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fireblood?

The various characters and their abilities.

What didn’t you like about Michael Page’s performance?

His voice didn't fit the characters.

Any additional comments?

The book may have it, but I needed a guide to what type of people had which abilities.

Fireblood: Good book with a cliffhanger.

This was a good book. It took me awhile to really get into it but once I did, I had a hard time putting it down until I finished it. I did have a difficult time keeping the characters straight. I know there are more books in the series so I wasn’t surprised with the cliffhanger. I did like Jeff Wheeler’s other series’ better than this one so far, but I will definitely finish this series and see what is next. I enjoyed the audio version.

Well it certainly wasn't "Good"

Michael Page did a great job with the different characters voices and conveying the emotions of the various situations throughout the story. The only narration issue I recall was Ch.42 at 5:27 in, when talking about a tree the main character Annon is not voiced properly.

I was excited to see that the reviews saying the book gets better after Ch. 22 were accurate and I am much more curious about the world and main plot now than during the first half of the book. The problem that I really have with this tale is in fact the characters. I liked Annon well enough but Paedrin is extremely irritating with his constant quips. This is made all the worse by his bickering with Hettie, who otherwise has no memorable character development, just actions to illicit response from others and as plot devices.

There's a bunch of dumb stuff that goes on throughout the story in which charters behave like they don't know the things they already know. This is generally irritating, but even more so towards the end of the book as the stage is being set for book 2. One of these situations regarding a character and a ring is used to justify a good bit of action to close things out, however there was already enough information that was well known by multiple characters, as it was a plot device earlier, which should have prevented the situation from ever happening at all.

tldr; Throughout most of my time listening I was searching for my next series since I will not be jumping into book 2 immediately, if ever.
