“One of this year's most buzzed about young adult novels.” (Good Morning America)

For fans of Angie Thomas and Tommy Orange, Angeline Boulley's debut novel, Firekeeper's Daughter, is a groundbreaking YA thriller about a Native teen who must root out the corruption in her community.

Eighteen-year-old Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in, both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. She dreams of a fresh start at college, but when family tragedy strikes, Daunis puts her future on hold to look after her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother Levi’s hockey team.

Yet even as Daunis falls for Jamie, she senses the dashing hockey star is hiding something. Everything comes to light when Daunis witnesses a shocking murder, thrusting her into an FBI investigation of a lethal new drug.

Reluctantly, Daunis agrees to go undercover, drawing on her knowledge of chemistry and Ojibwe traditional medicine to track down the source. But the search for truth is more complicated than Daunis imagined, exposing secrets and old scars. At the same time, she grows concerned with an investigation that seems more focused on punishing the offenders than protecting the victims.

Now, as the deceptions - and deaths - keep growing, Daunis must learn what it means to be a strong Anishinaabe kwe (Ojibwe woman) and how far she’ll go for her community, even if it tears apart the only world she’s ever known.

"The text is filled with Ojibwe phrases and traditions that Native American reader LaBlanc (Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota) handles with ease. Her voice is young and earnest and her fluency adds to the portrayal of Daunis.... It’s a tale filled with suspense, and LaBlanc’s sensitive reading will keep listeners plugged in." (Booklist, starred review)

"Expert narration from Isabella Star LeBlanc, a Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota, brings authenticity to Daunis’s joy, anger, fear, and grief while providing distinct voices for the supporting cast, including the tribal elders. LeBlanc’s captivating voice draws readers in, expressing every mundane, sweet, heartbreaking, and life-threatening moment." (School Library Journal, starred review)

With years of listening, countless customer reviews, and a catalog of seemingly infinite great listens, 100 suddenly felt like a very small number. One of my favorite books ever

Being an indigenous woman reading this book was very emotional to see the struggles that we know in our culture wing written about and seeing her come out of it on her own two feet. Such a beautiful and inspiring book. I would 100 percent recommend this book to everyone. Even the narration was good.

Excellent !!!

I read a lot of native literature and this is my new favorite novel. The author does a great job of explaining and celebrating native culture within the context of a very compelling story of missing and murdered indigenous women on the Ojibwa reservation in northern Michigan. The young woman at the heart of the story draws on the power of culture to guide her through her complicated life.

Loved the narrator who I am guessing is a native speaker because she easily moved from English to the Ojibwa language. She voiced the young woman who tells her story in a way that made me laugh, cry and cheer for her.

Hit home and loved it!

Loved how it utilized and shared our culture along with some real world problems that are faced constantly. It gives a small glimpse into the ugly web to which some lives are lived-- painting a clear picture of its complexities. Great read and will likely listen to it again.

Interesting, informative & creative. Kept my interest athroughout!

With compassion this author tells the story of these indigenous people and their experiences which are indelibly etched on the history of the United States of America. Each character is well defined and the readers make them come to life. It feels like a well produced play. I highly recommend this audio book.

Amazing roller coaster ride!

This story had me on the edge of my seat! I laughed so much, then suddenly would find myself in tears. The humor and family honor that is found within the First Nations, was well written. I have already shared this book with my family and friends. I hope there are more books to come from Angeline Boulley.

Tears of Sorrow and Pride of Resiliency

The book is an amazing story that keeps you engaged, while going through the life of an Anishinaabe teenage girl transition to womanhood. It is beautifully narrated and full of heart. The subject matter of this book talks about missing and murdered indiginous women, about meth and how it affects tribal families, about the issues of blood quantum for tribal memership and the inequality of laws between federal and tribal governments. All of these issues and important understandings of how it impacts community and families. Dont pass this up, based on my discussion of the subject matter. I posted that so that it could be understood since this is rated for young adult readers. It is beautiful, full of growth and understanding and the story tells of truth.
