Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best seller

You deserve to stop suffering because of what other people have done to you.

Have you ever felt stuck in a cycle of unresolved pain, playing offenses over and over in your mind? You know you can't go on living like this, but you don't know what to do next. Lysa TerKeurst has wrestled through this journey. But in surprising ways, she’s discovered how to let go of bound-up resentment and overcome the resistance to forgiving people who aren’t willing to make things right.

With deep empathy, therapeutic insight, and rich Bible teaching coming out of more than 1,000 hours of theological study, Lysa will help you:

  • Learn how to move on when the other person refuses to change and never says they're sorry.
  • Walk through a step-by-step process to free yourself from the hurt of your past and feel less offended today.
  • Discover what the Bible really says about forgiveness and the peace that comes from living it out right now.
  • Identify what's stealing trust and vulnerability from your relationships so you can believe there is still good ahead.
  • Disempower the triggers hijacking your emotions by embracing the two necessary parts

A Blessing! This ministered to my innermost heart!

Almost 45 ( yes, 45!) years of struggling with the wounds of a horrendous betrayal. I had been raped, married that same man 18 months later. A marriage of only 3 1/2 years. Too early married, too soon cast aside... Now, on his 71st birthday (!!! why can't I put away even this hurtful trivial remembrance?!!!) I had prayed a simple and absolutely necessary prayer: "Lord, Please Heal My Heart of this bitter gall that I am not able to put aside on my own." AND HE HAS HEALED ME! GLORY! PRAISE GOD FOR HIS FAITHFULNESS TO HIS CHILDREN!
Jesus told us TO ASK AND RECEIVE IN FAITH! With the simple faith of a child, at last I AM HEALED in my heart, my body, my spirit... to the very depths of my soul.
I had been experiencing awareness in my conscious memory of the trauma of early and prolonged childhood sexual abuse, incest, the rape, since age 35. That was 31 years ago. Dissociative Identity Disorder its known as now. In early treatment years it was know as Multiple Personality Disorder. I held that hand of cards I'd been dealt close to my heart. All those days, nights, months, years with no recollection of my 'history'. No understanding of "Why am I so 'effed up' in this family of 7 children. Why all the attempts at death by overdose? Why am I estranged from all but one sister?" Over the intervening years, awareness has come. Our Gracious Heavenly healed the DID twenty years ago. PTSD, MDP, GAD. (Look up the what those acronyms represent.)
Leading up to the present time: The revelation that I'd been in a basement for the last twenty years. Only risen into the Light for about 18 months. Rising. Rising. To last night's bedtime, listening to Lisa reading her book as I fell asleep, and unwittingly all thru the night. Today, as in the light of a beautiful sunny day (which it is!) an awareness of BEING HEALED! Thank you, Lisa, for your transparency. Thank you, Dear Lord Jesus and Precious Holy Spirit for this revelation, and the washing of Your Healing Waters over me!

Great read!

This book is a must read for people who have been deeply wounded, and find themselves caught in the “I forgive, but there is still a lot of pain and emotion attached to the hurt” cycle. Great tool for managing the pain of hurt and betrayal, when the person who hurt you isn’t sorry.

Absolutely what I needed....

When I saw the title, I almost passed it by. When I saw the title, I thought, another book that is going to tell me... If you just forgive, you'll feel better. you see, I always linked forgive and forget (together). Thankfully God moved me to read it. I will reread this book a lot!! It describes the pain and doesn't overlook it. More when I am done with the book. I love it.

Everyone NEEDS THIS BOOK!!!

I’ve read all of Lysa’s books but after living with bitterness and resentment in my heart for more years than I care to admit as a Christian woman - this book has slowly helped me start to walk the path towards forgiveness and the freedom it holds!

Her testimony in this book and truly parallel with any for of hurt that needs to be forgiven and allows you to break it apart slowly at your own pace! I’m on my second time listening and I’ve bought the Forgiveness Journal that goes with it because they truly go hand in hand!!

Thank you for writing this book Lysa 🥰

Amazing insight

I chose this book because I was thinking it would be good for someone else. I wanted to read it first to make sure that it was helpful to what I thought this other person needed. After reading it, I realized, I needed it too. Although at times I think everyone is different, I have found in many ways including inside this book, that we truly hurt in the same ways. I will enjoy trying to heal myself and heal others with the help of this book and its contents.

Great Book!

I love this author! Her honesty about her marriage is well received by me. Sad that her marriage ended. Great reminders that life is not perfect.
