About this listen

Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend, Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine - despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it? Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature - or something much more frightening? For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death.

Editorial reviews

Editors Select, January 2014 - Delaney Maxwell’s existence is, quite simply, a miracle. When she fell through the ice on a lake near her home in Maine, it was 11 minutes before her best friend, Decker, pulled her out. At some point during those 11 minutes Delaney died, but six days later her body and her brain defied science, and she woke up. Her near-death experience, however, has left her with a rare ability - she can sense when someone is about to die. Megan Miranda’s debut novel Fracture gripped me from the start. Miranda so expertly captures the teenage psyche, and effortlessly weaves elements of suspense and romance into Fracture that it’s hard to believe this is her first published book. Fan-favorite narrator Therese Plummer lends her voice to the haunting tale, and I’m eager to listen and dive back into the unknown with Delaney. —Katie, Audible Editor

Well Written, great narrator

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator is one of my favorites and is perfect for young adult fiction. The story line was very unique. The only thing I would warn anyone about is that it is a dark and depressing type of story. If you are in a sad or depressed mood, I would suggest something a little more upbeat. Otherwise, it was a good read. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Heart-wrenching in the best way

A beautiful story, relatable characters, and a heart-wrenching ending. The antagonist twist was a little predictable but their motive turned out to be mortifyingly relatable. Loved the poignant tie-togethers at the end.

Intriguing story

This was a great story with a little mystery, some romance, and a dash of make the most of your life. Great potato chips for the brain book.

Ok

This book was listed as age 11-13. It had way too much language and sexual content for me to ever let my 12 year old read. It just wasn't necessary to the story.

Way too YA

Expected this to be a lot less about love among teens. Pretty boring, sad to say.
