Publisher's summary
The propulsive, shockingly plausible sequel to New York Times best seller Daemon.
In one of the most buzzed-about debuts, Daniel Suarez introduced a terrifying vision of a new world order, controlled by the Daemon, an insidious computer program unleashed by a hi-tech wunderkind. Daemon captured the attention of the tech community, became a New York Times and Indie best seller, and left listeners hungry for more. Well, more is here, and it's even more gripping than its predecessor.
In the opening chapters of Freedom, the Daemon is firmly in control, using an expanded network of real-world, dispossessed darknet operatives to tear apart civilization and rebuild it anew. Soon civil war breaks out in the American Midwest, in a brutal wave of violence that becomes known as the Corn Rebellion. Former detective Pete Sebeck, now the Daemon's most powerful - though reluctant - operative, must lead a small band of enlightened humans toward a populist movement designed to protect the new world order. But the private armies of global business are preparing to crush the Daemon once and for all.
In a world of conflicted loyalties, rapidly diminishing human power, and the possibility that anyone can be a spy, what's at stake is nothing less than human freedom's last hope to survive the technology revolution.

Loved it!
I definitely recommend you read Daemon first as the story continues through. I'm in the computer industry and loved the tech jargon. The first book had a little too much of it but they toned it down on this one which turned out to be just right. The storyline kept me interested and the scifi aspect was pretty cool.

A plausible view of the future
After reading Daemon, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Freedom. I can only weep as it appears to only be a two book series, the concept behind it is phenomenal.
Daniel Suarez, being a tech consultant before becoming an author, has a keen eye for technical details and everything he mentions is either already a technology or is actively being worked on, which for me, is a rare treat to be treasured.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves technology and cares about our society and where it's headed.

WoW in real life?
Would you listen to Freedom (TM) again? Why?
No, It's a good book, but one go is enough. It's got alot of interesting ideas but not ones that would hold up in the real world.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I liked the idea of instant voting and internet popularity determining worth or resources of a person. Then I thought about it and that is a bad idea.
Which character – as performed by Jeff Gurner – was your favorite?
I liked the order. If you don't know you won't get it.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's well told, and narrated. I just question the realities it implies.

This book was probably better that the first one. The plot has changed from an evil mad man releasing a malevolent computer virus on the world to it turns out maybe he didn't have evil intent after all. Worth a listen

Society on the Brink
This book is the conclusion to Daniel Suarez's Daemon. He really delivers with this book, bringing the story to a resounding conclusion. While fictional, this story spins a tale about the fast paced development of technology, the rise of the corporation and the decline of the nation-state and its potential outcome which feels very realistic. Matthew Sobel, a dead technological genius, initiated the events that have unfolded through the course of Suarez's two books. While he's the original bad guy, in Freedom it becomes apparent that he's not the only one and in fact, he may not have been a bad guy at all.
Suarez expertly weaves multiple threads of the story together, keeping you on the edge of your seat, and bringing it all together in the end. The main narrator does a great job with both books. I like that they have female voice for the "news" statements.
