When you are criticized or rejected, do you have a tendency to lash out or withdraw entirely? Both types of kneejerk reactions can have lasting and unintended consequences, affecting our friendships, careers, families, and romantic relationships. The truth is, overreacting hurts us as much as it hurts the people around us. You may see overreacting as an unchangeable part of your personality, but in reality, this tendency, like any other, can be unlearned.

Psychotherapist David Richo examines the science of triggers and our reactions of fear, anger, and sadness. He helps us understand why our bodies respond before our minds have a chance to make sense of a situation. By looking deeply at the roots of what provokes us - the words, actions, and even sensory elements like smell - we find opportunities to understand the origins of our triggers and train our bodies to remain calm in the face of painful memories.

In this controversial book, world-renowned confidence expert, Dr. Aziz Gazipura, takes an incisive look at the concept of nice. Through his typical style, Dr. Aziz uses engaging stories, humor, and disarming vulnerability to cut through the nice conditioning and liberate the most bold, expressive, authentic version of you.

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

In this culmination of his life’s work, Peter A. Levine draws on his broad experience as a clinician, a student of comparative brain research, a stress scientist and a keen observer of the naturalistic animal world to explain the nature and transformation of trauma in the body, brain and psyche. In an Unspoken Voice is based on the idea that trauma is neither a disease nor a disorder, but rather an injury caused by fright, helplessness and loss that can be healed by engaging our innate capacity to self-regulate high states of arousal and intense emotions.

Resumen del Editor
Therapy-tested real-world techniques for defusing anger and anxiety triggers in any situation, with anyone, and for everyone’s benefit.
At home, at work, or even out shopping, we’ve all experienced a moment when we’ve gone from feeling just fine to feeling out of control. Something inside us shifts. We instantly feel hurt, angry, shut down, or frozen. As best-selling author and therapist Susan Campbell shows, in these moments, we’ve been triggered.
In From Triggered to Tranquil, Dr. Campbell shows how a remark, tone of voice, facial expression, or other interpersonal cue can activate a deep-seated memory of a past wound. By recognizing this dynamic, we can soothe our upset feelings, heal our childhood fears, resolve disagreements, and restore connections.
Dr. Campbell offers a no-blame approach to conflicts and misunderstandings, empowering us to prevent triggers from ruining our relationships. She emphasizes that when we compassionately understand the roots of our trigger reactions, we can also better understand the actions of those around us. As a result, we become stronger and more resilient when facing any upsetting interaction or unwanted surprise. Working with Dr. Campbell’s tools, we expand the size of the world we can comfortably deal with, and learn to take in stride the things we used to avoid.

The problem? You're filled with self-criticism and shame, and you can't allow yourself to express fear, anger, loss, or grief. You recognize something is wrong, but you're not sure what exactly - only that you feel trapped and alone. If this sounds like you, you may have perfectly hidden depression (PHD).

Two chapters in…
When referring to a man’s independent relationship with his daughter from a previous marriage as a “transgression” that’s a stretch, it’s healthy and natural. Not a transgression. This we’ll be updated when I read more.

A essential "HOW TO" for resolving conflict!
The narration and content of this work is excellent! The words of Dr. Susan Campbell as narrated by Christina Moore were engaging and informative from start to finish. I was left with a sense of hopefulness after seeing many on my own relationships fall apart from an inability to "work things out". Susan (as told by Christina) lays out the landscape of how things go sideways in our communications and practical tools for compassionate self inquiry. Most importantly they provide a clear and concise process to repair the upsets. For anyone who has felt the pain of communication breakdowns in love, family, friendships, groups or business relationships this audiobook is a MUST HEAR!

Mediocre intro to triggers at best
I have been thru several books on cptsd and had hoped this had specific strategies. After a few chapters I felt it was getting no where but to examine whether you believe in triggers and then she said fawning is a fake smile and really just part of the freeze response. So if you're triggered stop it and then you'll be ok.

Essential for…humans
If everyone could learn the process of handling your triggers as described in this book, the world would be pretty much completely transformed. So clear and direct, not sugar coated, yet immensely empathetic. So grateful to have found this book!
