It has it all birth to death of both figures.

It has it all birth to death of both figures. If you thought you knew them, guess again. As I search for the true history of the world from the end of the Victorian age to present I find this book a long, albeit necessarily long, accurate description of two stubborn people that had an unlikely if not unwanted, by them, affect on the world.

Simply excellent

This is a very well written history, which I have now listened to twice. I found it so compelling that I subsequently purchased the hard copy so I could read and annotate it. I read the book having already read much on Churchill (including Manchester's biographies) but I wasn't disappointed since this book really focuses primarily on India and Gandhi, but in a manner that also tracks Churchill's life and influence as well. This is truly one of the best audiobooks I've purchased from audible.

Leadership: Passive and Aggresive

A wonderful recount of events that shapped both the future of Great Britan and India. Although things didn't turn out the way either of the two men expected their contributions to history are majestic. The backgrounds of both men and the era they came from makes for interesting reading and a deeper understanding of how they acted/reacted to the events that took place.

wonderful contrast

I really enjoyed learning more about the history of India and Great Britain through the story of these two men's lives. I would love to read more on Gandhi and hope audible will make more titles available about this great man.

Death of the British Empire, Birth of the Modern World

My father grew up in India, during the pre-independence era. Both Gandhi and Churchill were largely responsible for shaping my father’s life, so held very strong feelings about them. He believed that Churchill was great for Europe, but equally terrible for India. He also taught me that Gandhi was a sort of living saint who freed India from British rule. Neither of those statements are entirely wrong, but they are oversimplifications. They are part of a cultural mythology created by the titanic societal shifts ushered in by both Gandhi and Churchill. The true story of these men, their personal journeys, and especially their relationship to the British Empire is far more complex and infinitely more fascinating.

Arthur Herman’s joint biography of Grandi and Churchill is one of those rare books that looks dense, but is so intriguing that it zooms by at lightning speed. It’s impossible to do this book justice with any summary, so I will simply say it is an incredible read. This is the story of a rivalry that shook an empire it its very core, ultimately ending one era of World History and the creating another. What are you waiting for? Beyond highly recommended!

GandhI & Churchill; a wonderful review of world events in the 1900s.

For those of us that have lived through the 1940’s to the present, this well written book puts together all the pieces of the puzzle while detailing the most interesting & important bits of information of two major players influencing events in that era; An easy read especially with both the book and Audible!

Struggle against colonization

Very gripping read on two leaders of their nations and how their stories enter twined with each other to tell an amazing story. The author does a valiant job of staying unbiased but the power of a people striving for self government screamed through to make Gandhi the more compelling and compassionate figure.
