About this listen

With his big blue eyes and soulful expression, George was the irresistible runt of the litter. But Dave and Christie Nasser's "baby" ended up being almost five feet tall, seven feet long, and 245 pounds. Eager to play, and boisterous to the point of causing chaos, this big Great Dane was scared of water, scared of dogs a fraction of his size, and, most of all, scared of being alone.

Giant George is the charming story of how this precocious puppy won Dave and Christie's hearts and along the way became a doggie superstar. In 2010, George was named by Guinness World Records as the Tallest Dog in the World - ever. He appeared on Oprah, and even has his own global fan club. But to Dave and Christie, this extraordinary animal is still their beloved pet, the one who has made them laugh, made them cry, and continues to make them incredibly happy.

Relatable Dane owner

I read the book in 2014, I remember laughing throughout book. Dog Trainer insisted I read since I had just gotten a 5mo old Great Dane and week two began his training, lost him to bone cancer last yr (2023). I now am owned by 2, one a 6.5yr old extremely tall Dane, rescued 4.5yrs ago, dumb, emotional but so loveable! Yes, had to buy new couch so we all could fit. 3 big dogs and little me. Today 2 Dogs get couch corners, other 1 use to share my bed. Nice hugs

The Giant Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Giant George to be better than the print version?

No, the pictures in the print version make it the best choice. You just have to see that magnificent animal to appreciate him.

Any additional comments?

This is a great read. The story of Giant George is very heart warming. He is famous because he is big. He is great because he is the ultimate Gentle Giant. This an excellent easy read with just enough drama to keep you interested. Go Team George!

A delightful read

This book is a must read if you are a dog owner and lover. The fact his owner ended up with the worlds biggest dog was simply by accident.
If you are looking for an easy read, one that will make you smile, but yet have you looking forward to the next chapter, this book will not be disappointing.
It is certainly not a masterpiece or literary giant, but simply an easy delightful read, one you will suggest to friends and family.

Nothing much beyond a big cute dog

This is a simple, sweet story about a man who buys his fiancee a dog, which grows to be the biggest dog in the world. I love dogs, and enjoy family novels, but this story disappointed me. Why? There is very little plot. The narrator, Dave, falls in love and buys a dog and gets married, and Dave and his wife have babies while their dog grows into the biggest dog in the world. The dog does some cute things, but neither Dave, his wife, nor George (the dog) are real at all. They are all sweet and bland. My two favorite dog novels are The Art of Racing in the Rain, and One Good Dog. Both of those have engaging human stories with awesome dogs. The audiobooks have great readers, too. I don't understand how so many people could love Giant George. My wife, who loves dog stories, only thought this was okay. The one thing I will say is that the simplicity of this story makes it easy to listen to, once you get used to the fast pace of the reader. It adequately passes the time on a long car ride, but was never something that made me want to listen to more.
