Story
Seventy years ago, Joe Rubinstein walked out of a Nazi concentration camp. Until now, his story has been hidden from the world. Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, 21-year-old Joe answered a knock at the door of the cottage he shared with his widowed mother and siblings. German soldiers forced him onto a crowded open-air truck. Wearing only an undershirt and shorts, Joe was left on the truck with no protection from the cold. By the next morning, several around him would be dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe, much worse.

Story
Trapped in Poland in 1941, like many Jews, Millie Werber went from the Radom Ghetto to slave labor in an armaments factory, survived Auschwitz, and toiled in a second factory until liberation came on April 1, 1945. She faced death many times but lived to marry a good man and fellow survivor. Meanwhile, she concealed a photograph in her closet and carried a secret in her heart.

Story
A Promise at Sobibór is the story of Fiszel Bialowitz, a teenaged Polish Jew who escaped the Nazi gas chambers. Between April 1942 and October 1943, about 250,000 Jews from European countries and the Soviet Union were sent to the Nazi death camp at Sobibór in occupied Poland. Sobibór was not a transit camp or work camp: Its sole purpose was efficient mass murder. On October 14, 1943, approximately half of the 650 or so prisoners still alive at Sobibór undertook a daring and precisely planned revolt, killing SS officers and fleeing through minefields and machine-gun fire.

When Germany invaded Poland, bombers devastated Warsaw - and the city's zoo along with it. With most of their animals dead, zookeepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski began smuggling Jews into the empty cages. Another dozen "guests" hid inside the Zabinskis' villa, emerging after dark for dinner, socializing, and, during rare moments of calm, piano concerts.

Story
On October 14, 1943, 600 Jews imprisoned in Sobibor, a secret Nazi death camp in eastern Poland, revolted. They killed a dozen SS officers and guards, trampled the barbed wire fences, and raced across an open field filled with anti-tank mines. Against all odds, more than three hundred made it safely into the woods. Fifty of those men and women managed to survive the rest of the war. In this edition of Escape from Sobibor, fully updated in 2012, Richard Rashke tells their stories

Story
Country of Ash is the starkly compelling, original chronicle of a Jewish doctor who miraculously survived near-certain death, first inside the Lodz and Warsaw ghettoes, where he was forced to treat the Gestapo, then on the Aryan side of Warsaw, where he hid under numerous disguises. He clandestinely recorded the terrible events he witnessed, but his manuscript disappeared during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. After the war, reunited with his wife and young daughter, he rewrote his story.

Story
On the nights of July 16 and 17, 1942, French police rounded up 11-year-old Joseph Weismann, his family, and 13,000 other Jews. After being held for five days in appalling conditions in the Vélodrome d'Hiver stadium, Joseph and his family were transported by cattle car to the Beaune-la-Rolande internment camp and brutally separated. A thousand children were left behind to wait for a later train. The French guards told the children that they would soon be reunited with their parents, but Joseph and his new friend, Joe Kogan, chose to risk everything in a daring escape attempt.

Story
Halima Bashir was born into the Zaghawa tribe, whose customs have remained unchanged for centuries, in the remote western deserts of Sudan in the region of South Darfur. Halima's father named his daughter after the traditional medicine woman of the village, and she grew up in a happy and close-knit childhood environment. Her father became a wealthy man by his tribe's standards, so he could afford to send Halima to school and university. Halima went on to study medicine, and at 24 she returned to her tribe and began practicing as their first ever qualified doctor.

Interesting side story.
This is the fifth book I have read/listened to by this author and I look forward to listening to every book in the P.A.W.S. world. I am enjoying these side stories to the main P.A.W.S. Book, even if I don’t recall these characters in the first book. Guess I need to re-listen after listening to all the Tales from P.A.W.S. so I can place these characters. ——-
This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Christopher Goodrich ) and I would listen to another. He did a good job with both the male and female character voices. He reads more than really performs the book due to his enunciation, but it is still a pleasant listen. He does add emotion. ——-
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence, or swearing. ——-

5 stars
5/5 Stars Griddlebone by Debbie Manber Kupfer
Run time: 26 minutes
Narrated by: Christopher Goodrich
Summary:
Shapeshifting cats take on the Nazis.
Additional Comments:
- Imaginative and fun.
- What if the Nazi scientists succeeded in creating a shapeshifting werecat-soldier? That’s pretty much the crux of this story.
- Christopher Goodrich did an excellent job bringing the story to life.
- It’s a short story but worth hearing, whether you’re a P.A.W.S. fan or never heard of it. The story can stand on its own. I think it takes place way before the normal series.
Conclusion:
If you like fantasy historical fiction (if there is such a thing), you’ll enjoy this tale. It’s got heart, heroics, and kitty cats.

Brave. Daring. Commendable.
This is my first read in this P.A.W.S. series, so not sure how it all goes together. But this short story is intense. Griddlebone is a werecat genetically engineered by the nazis to be a spy. He turns on them and comes to the rescue of the Jews. Brave. Daring. Commendable.
The narrator of this audio version did an ok job. There were a couple of characters voices I wasn't too fond of.

Another great short story...
Another short story from Debbie Manber Kupfer. In this story, set during WWII, the Nazis have created a shapeshifter - a werecat - to use as a weapon. The problem with creating weapons that are sentient is that they can think for themselves.
This was a very interesting take on the experiments the Nazis performed during WWII. It's a somewhat dark topic for a children's short story, but not overly so. The narrator, Christopher Goodrich, did a fair enough job for a children's Story, but he was clearly reading more than performing. Still, it wasn't bad, and it is a story that I will listen to again.

3rd book in P.A.W.S. Nice turnaround on Nazis!
This book is a mixture of history (Nazi Germany)
and Shifters. What a wonderful turnaround through the Nazi's own Genetic Experiments!!
good story line.
