Story
Charity Raber is one of many single women who came to Birch Creek, Ohio, with one goal in mind: secure a husband from among the desperate bachelors a newspaper advertisement claimed inhabited the town. Even though that claim proved to be nothing more than a cruel prank, Charity is still hopeful that her happy ending might be within reach when she’s set up on a date with Jesse Bontrager. That is until Jesse not-so-gently shares that he has no interest in a relationship with anyone—and especially not with her.

Publisher's summary
Addie Byler may be Apple Creek's resident wallflower, but she knows she has a lot to offer—and much to be grateful for. Raised by her loving grandmother, she lives a life filled with good friends and hard work. Wary of romance, Addie assumes no man will look beyond her glasses and her tendency to talk to her rescue donkey, Snickers—until the day she finds a note from a secret admirer. A prank, most likely. But then, a second note arrives . . .
It's not that Daniel Miller doesn't like Addie, he just doesn't want to court her. She's too willful, too chatty, too odd. Yet when he learns she's been teased because she's never had a beau, he decides to send a little note of encouragement. One note leads to another. And when Addie begins replying with thoughtful messages of her own, he's struck by her sweetness and warmth.
As chilly winter melts into spring, what began as a gesture of sympathy becomes something much deeper. Daniel fears revealing the truth, but with courage, faith—and a helping hand from their close-knit community—Apple Creek's most unlikely couple may find their path to happiness . . .

Story
What would cause the Amish to move to Colorado, leaving family and friends behind? Some Amish are making the trek for cheaper land. Others are fleeing strict bishops with long memories. For Emily Detweiler and her family, the move is more personal. Tragedy struck Emily in Ohio, shaking loose everything she believed was firm, including her faith. Her family took the bold step of leaving Ohio to resettle in a small Amish community in Canaan, Colorado, where they hope the distance will help erase painful memories.

Story
For generations, Ellie Hostetler's family has tended their Lancaster County orchard, a tradition her twin brother, Evan, will someday continue. Yet when Evan's draft number is called up in the lottery for the Vietnam War, the family is shocked to learn he has not sought conscientious objector status, despite their Old Order Amish belief in nonresistance. The faraway war that has caused so much turmoil and grief among their Englisher neighbors threatens to touch much too close to home. Can she and her family find the courage to face a future unlike any they could have imagined?

Though she has blossomed into a beauty, Lily Christner doesn't really believe it. Deep down she still feels like a lonely, gawky teenager. Maybe that's why she's all but promised herself to Paul Glick, the one boy who never teased her in her awkward girlhood, unlike Dan Kanagy, whose creative name-calling left her in tears many a time.

A sweet surprise
I expected a quick “Hallmark” romance but got so much more. Yes, it is a light, clean (kissing only) romance but it also touches on some tender issues like abandonment and bullying. Nothing too dark but a couple parts brought genuine tears to my eyes. It also touches on what can happen when we choose to see the good and acknowledge Gods merciful hand in our lives.
It’s a book worth your time even light enough to brighten your day but deep enough to keep you thinking about the characters after you’ve finished the book.
<spoiler>…
I especially love that the real theme of the book is that we are never “better” or “more/less worthy” than anyone else. And the damage we do when we think we are…whether you are shunning them, trying to change them, or condescending to grace them with your presence…whether that be a person in the community, a family member or ourselves.
And I loved the sweet message that we can change. We can repent (change, turn yourself around) and be better.
And how one person can lead a group to shun or to accept.
Sweet story.

Amishly Happy
"HAPPILY EVER AMISH" is another wonderful heartwarming story. Shelley Shepard Gray hit a homerun out of the ballpark with this tremendous story. I felt like I was right there with the characters as they experienced the ups and downs life threw at them. Greater then that, I was right there with them when GOD'S everlasting love showed them HE was always with them and that HIS love was greater then any worldly challenge. I love how Shelley shares HIS love in her writing. I'm looking forward to another great story. The narration done by Tavia Gilbert is fantastic. I think everyone needs to listen to this story.

3⭐️⭐️⭐️.5🎧
Gossip is in every community. They say Addie is odd because she has a donkey and was raised by her grandmother. She has an English friend who she pays to take her to town. They do become friends, but it's not the same.
Addie is the primary caregiver to her grandmother, who is 72, and her health is declining.
Daniel is the only person who makes an effort to say hello to Addie, but he just doesn't want to court her. But as he learns that she has been teased for things she can't change, he decides to write her a secret admirer letter.
Their friendship blooms through letters, even if she doesn't know who the SA is.
But outside of the SA letters, they become friends as well, and Daniel realizes just how wrong everyone was about Addie. She isn't really all that odd; no one has ever taken the time to get to know her.
I really enjoyed their story. It is very much a slow burn, and I was here for it.
The narration was perfect for the story. Tavia Gilbert is a great voice actor.

YA romance
This was more of a bland young adult romance. The main characters were 19 and 20. Addie is not willful and does not have a life filled with friends as the description says. She’s a young woman left by her parents to be raised by her grandmother. For some reason, the kids her age ostracize her for this. Also, she’s treated as if she’s already a spinster (at the ripe old age of 19). I had a difficult time buying into this premise or the attraction between the main characters.
