Not dissappointed and very pleased.

Better than I expected. If you like ghost stories this one is a must. Hard to turn this one off because it makes you feel like you are right there with the characters and you want to get involved in the story. Hill's best work I think and the narrator brought it to the listener so well done.

Would you listen to Heart-Shaped Box again? Why?

Sure. It was enjoyable. I think the narrator did good voices and there were a lot of interesting details and side notes along the way.

What other book might you compare Heart-Shaped Box to and why?

Gosh I'm bad at remembering stuff. "Horns", also by Joe Hill comes to mind. It's basically a creepy horrorfest wrapped around a gritty mystery thriller. So if that's your bag, look no further.

What does Stephen Lang bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a good job with differentiating character voices. He added just the right amount of emotion into scenes and line reading.

Who was the most memorable character of Heart-Shaped Box and why?

They were all memorable! I guess Florida stuck with me the most since she's the real mystery. You get to know her piece by piece and her story is so compelling.

Any additional comments?

I really liked this. But whoever thought it was an awesome idea to pipe in terrible synthy hair rock between some chapters ... I just can't. Notable musicians were mentioned throughout the book; I don't think any of them would have appreciated the musical interludes here. Please stick to the storytelling; no more music.

A great Listen

I am a huge Stephen King fan, so when I came across this book I knew only his could be as great as him. This book will keep interested from start to finish!

Unimpressed

This would have been a decent story story but nothing more. I forced myself to finish because it's approximately 20 chapters too long.

Fantastic

I totally loved this book! I'm so excited about it! The author rolled together HP Lovecraft, Stephen King, and something even stranger. I loved it! The character are strange, the story line is weird, but it all works together. Its the best audiobook I have listened to. I can't wait to read more from this guy!

FANTASTIC.. DISTURBING.... AMAZING.....

I can't rave about this book enough... It sucks you in... I loved the lead character, Judas Coyne. He reminds me of James Hetfield from Metallica. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. I am sad its over but can't wait to listen again. Joe Hill is my new favorite writer... LISTEN TO THIS BOOK.... TRUST ME....

Surprised and delighted!

I don’t normally read horror. Something drew me to this book. I was surprised and delighted! It was truly spooky and riveting. I hated when I had to stop for my real life! Great writing. Felt like I was watching a mesmerizing movie in my head. Highly recommend!!

The Dead Pull the Living Down

Great storyline and great narration! I couldn't wait to get in my car everyday just to listen.

Worth it

Good book and narrator. Certainly worth a listen. I'd give it five stars but that takes a really special book.

Best Horror Story

What did you love best about Heart-Shaped Box?

This was the best horror story I have read in along time. The build up for suspense and story was great; my heart was racing during the book. It was hard to pull myself away from the story when I had to stop for work.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The level of suspense was perfect, it kept you wanting to read more, wanting to know what happened next. The plot built on top of itself greatly, with no twists that come out of the blue that contradict the first part of the book (which happens a lot in horror/suspenseful stories).

What does Stephen Lang bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice, especially for the ghost, was perfect. The slow drawl for ghost, the smugness of the main character, it was amazing. Stephen Lang did a great job.

Any additional comments?

Heart-Shaped Box just jumped my list to one of my 10 all time favorite books. I highly recommend any horror fan to read this.
