I am always happy to see a new Royal Spyness Book!

I am a huge Rhys Bowen fan - and this is my favorite of her series. If you liked Elizabeth Peters - I believe you will enjoy this series. Light hearted fun!

One of Series Best!!

I have read all but two in this hilarious series. This well plotted, engaging mystery delivers a satisfying resolution. Watch out for a wickedly funny fox hunt.

Would you listen to Heirs and Graces again? Why?

The characters are interesting and fun and continue the story of Georgie from the earlier novels in the series. The plots and the characters are simple and straightforward, but very compelling. You get wrapped up in the story without even realizing it. Heirs and Graces has a plot that is decidedly different from the other books. It's amazing to me how the author can mange to provide a whole new set of characters in a completely new setting with each book, without repeating anything and and without changing the main characters from the earlier books. Each book is really fresh. Wonderful old fashioned story telling. Love it.

Long Set Up

Takes up pretty much where the last book left off. No murder (or mystery) occurs till about half way in. Still, it was nicely done and Georgie really did help solve this one. Nice to see more of Georgie and Darcy together. I was somewhat disappointed that her attempted murder wasn’t addressed in the aftermath. Katherine Kellgren was wonderful as always, with great, distinctive voices and accents for all the many characters. I do particularly like her voice for Georgie. 4 stars/5 narrator.

Delightful Series

This isn't the series to go to if you want to expand your mind. But, if you'd like a well-crafted light (and I do mean light) mystery with an easy-to-listen-to narrator, this is the one. Start at the beginning and just go through them. Once in a while this kind of book is a nice break. Be warned. It's a cupcake, not a meal.

By the way ... this is a series you can share with your mom, grandma and great aunt. It's all just good, clean fun.

The narrator, Katherine Kellgren, really needs a shout out. Her work is terrific. She makes Georgie come to life.

My go-to series when I'm stressed or feeling dumpy

STORY (mystery) - If you want something light and cheerful but with enough mystery to keep you guessing, this is your series. I can always count on it to cheer me up or for just a light, easy listen. In this book Georgie and the main characters must figure who killed a wealthy landowner when all of his potential heirs stand to gain from his death.

There is a short foxhunt in this book but, contrary to the cover art, horseback riding is not a major part of the story.

PERFORMANCE - Love Katherine Kellgren. Some reviewers criticize her performance as overdone, but I think it enhances this series. Since these are light mysteries and somewhat comical, most of the characters themselves are overdone. They are pompous British royalty, always concerned about status and their appearance. IMHO, Katherine's performance might be overdone if the story was more serious, but in this case I think it was spot on. Listen for yourself if you are concerned. She is, indeed, a master of accents and voices!

OVERALL - There are extremely mild references to sexual rendezvous, and there is no bad language in this book. It is a murder mystery but, as such, it is handled very lightly without gory detail. This story stands alone, though the romance between Georgie and Darcy O'Mara is a continuing thread throughout the series. Recommended for all female listeners.

Great performance!

This is a fun cozy mystery series made even better by fantastic narration by Katherine Kellgren. I have listened to 5 of the 7 books in the series (and read the other two in print) and listening to this one was like coming home. Storywise this book might not be the strongest in the series but it was solid and entertaining. If you like the series, you should like this one. If you haven't listened before, what's stopping you? This series is well worth audible credits!

Excellent descriptions regarding time period, loved the suspense how all the suspects seemed possible at different points. But the conclusion was unsatisfying, happened too fast, not sure how protagonist came to her conclusion...
