2016 Audible's Best in Science Fiction

The New York Times and USA Today best-selling series

More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

When one of the remaining airships is damaged in an electrical storm, a Hell Diver team is deployed to a hostile zone called Hades. But there's something down there far worse than the mutated creatures discovered on dives in the past - something that threatens the fragile future of humanity.

Dark but engaging

At first I thought this book might have been a bit too dark for my taste but the story kept pulling me back because I needed to hear what happened next. The story, combined with an excellent narrator, forced me to finish this book in record time and I had to immediately grab the 2nd book to hear more.

Gritty Sci-Fi

Awesome story with great narration. Writing is well done with a believable plot. Military science fiction at its finest.

This Book Opens with an Explosive Salvo

This book made me feel something, and that is what I look for in a story in any genre!

As for a story synopsis, the Amazon and publisher's information is very good, so I want to focus on the quality of the characters and the writing in general.

I have gone on to buy and read this entire series. It is phenominal! Nicholas Sansbury Smith is so good at creating characters that move you and bring a passion for their world to life.

I find myself emotionally rooting for our all-too-human heroes and mightily "booing and hissing" at the all-too-evil villians and monsters.

These stories are always a roller-coaster ride of thrills, chills, and hairpin turns, big scares, and narrow misses.

Smith is a master at writing and creating a multilayered story with extreme plot twists (upon twists). He blind-sides the reader with GREAT surprises...like at the end of this book! No plot spoiler here!

The narration is amazing as is this book and the series itself.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book! I promise you'll start a new adventure and stick with a new series that never disappoints!

WOW,, AWESOME.! FANTASTIC SCI FIC EVER AND THE PERFORMANCE IS FANTASTIC!,

The story line is so good. Kept me up the whole night to finish the book. Nicholas Sansbury Smith is a brilliant writer and R C Bray performed to perfection. The story is so...very good. You can almost feel the tensions felt by the divers whenever they have to dive to earth to salvage for parts the ship need. Many died attacked by monsters who are living on the surface. The protagonist, X Xavier Rodigress the leader of team Raptor is the most experienced and he had dived 96 times, a record among the divers. Interesting plot and I will be continuing with book2. Well worth a credit!

Dive into your next favorite story and author

Hell Divers is a story that grips you by the face and makes you want to listen faster, cheer louder, and fight harder. If you are looking for your next military Si-Fi story this is it!

Nicholas Sansbury Smith creates a world that is gritty and makes you feel as if you are on edge with the entire crew trying to make the last of humanity survive.

My only regret is that I let this gem sit in my wish list for a year before I had to have someone tell me how great it was. I am now making up for lost time reading the rest of the series.

Performance... Astounding

If you’ve never listened to a book narrated by Bray before then get ready. This book was a good post apocalyptic story that was only enhanced by the performance

I liked this book but wouldn't recommend it.

First off, R. C. Bray Is one of my favorite readers/performers. The story I loved as a concept. But the execution of it was...meh. I like Nicholas Sanbury's action storytelling. But the human aspect of his characters is lacking. Characters don't organically evolve. They just have a "lightbulb" moment, and just magically change their whole train of thought and direction in life.
As intelligent or skilled as some characters are, they repeatedly make the same stupid mistakes over and over never learning from past events, even if they were just a handful of hours beforehand.
It just doesn't make sense.
Like I said, I loved the concept. The world he built was original and interesting. I wanted it to be more, but by the end of the story I had no interest to continue to the next book. Especially after reading the summary.
I've been burning through books on Audible, and I love series. But I'm okay if I don't know what happens next after this one.
