Publisher's summary

In the newest installment of the best-selling series Mythos, legendary author and actor Stephen Fry moves from the exploits of the Olympian gods to the deeds of mortal heroes.

Perseus. Jason. Atalanta. Theseus. Heracles. Rediscover the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths. Whether recounting a tender love affair or a heroic triumph, Fry deftly finds resonance with our own modern minds and hearts.

  • Each adventure is infused with Fry's distinctive voice and writing style.
  • Connoisseurs of the Greek myths will appreciate this fresh-yet-reverential interpretation, while newcomers will feel welcome.
  • Retellings brim with humor and emotion.

"Mostly Chiron saw in the child, and the young man he became, boundless courage, athleticism, intelligence, and ambition. He saw too lots of words beginning with 'self', which gave him pause. Self-belief, self-possession, self-righteousness, self-confidence, self-love. Perhaps these characteristics are as necessary to a hero as courage."

In Heroes, Fry draws out the humor and pathos in both tender love affairs and heroic battles, and reveals each myth's relevance for our own time.

Mythology told with style, elegance, humour & wit.

I love mythology. Let me reiterate, I LOVE mythology!!! I studied it in school and loved every minute of it. I watched the Bill Moyers interviews with the legendary Joseph Campbell more times than I have fingers. I honestly thought I would never be entertained, amused or as addicted to someone talking about mythology as I have with Stephen Fry. His wry witticisms, his character voices and singular style retelling of the old tales really made these characters spring to life. I highly recommend it to everyone I know and have created legions of fans for his novels. Do yourself a favour and give it a try.

Perfection!

This is an incredible compilation of the heroes. Absolute masterpiece! Stephen Fry does it again! It only took me so long because I lent the book out to a friend for 3 weeks. It was a blast to go through and learn about Heracles and Jason and Theseus! My favorites. This is a must read if you like Greek mythology. To know the touch of the mortals is perfection!

absolutely delightful. This and Mythos are two shining examples of what the audio book experience can give you that text can't.

Mythology with that special Fry touch.

When I heard that Steven Fry had a book that retold the Greek myths, I just had to listen. He brings to life the stories and adventures that I loved as a child and ones that I only read later. True to the spirit, if you enjoy mythology, I highly recommend this presentation.

Intelligent, hilarious, compelling, and well acted. Stephen Fry, ladies and gentlemen! Love this series to bits. I hope this continues to delve deeper into this and other mythos!

Again, wonderful and FUN!

All about gods, who are really all about humans. Fry does no interpreting of the myths, thank goodness. He just tells the stories, though he often makes hilarious comments or translates a quote from a god in modern, colloquial English. I have his third in this trilogy and will start listening s soon as I finish this review.
