Story
When a plane crashed in the quaint town of Castor, it unleashed a virus that turned everyone into hissing, blood-thirsty, undead monsters. Monsters that could transmit their plague in seconds, that could run as fast as dogs, and that could fuse themselves together to create massive mutated beasts. Four teens - Connor, Seth, Amanita, and Nicole - fought for their lives to secure vital data from the plane wreckage, some of them paying the ultimate sacrifice. Now they need to get to San Diego with their secret, but the plague is spreading too fast.

A propulsive and ambitious novel as electrifying as The Wire, from a writer hailed as the West Coast's Richard Price—a mesmerizing epic of crime and opportunity, race, revenge, and loyalty, set in the chaotic streets of South Central LA in the wake of one of the most notorious and incendiary trials of the 1990s. At 3:15 p.m. on April 29, 1992, a jury acquitted three white Los Angeles Police Department officers charged with using excessive force to subdue a black man named Rodney King and failed to reach a verdict on the same charges involving a fourth officer. Less than two hours later, the city exploded in violence that lasted six days. In nearly 121 hours, fifty-three lives were lost. But there were even more deaths unaccounted for: violence that occurred outside of active rioting sites by those who used the chaos to viciously settle old scores.

A cool and crazy twist to the Zombie genre
I thought this book had everything a zombie enthusiast enjoys - desperation, hopelessness and the mad fight to stay alive against ridiculous odds. Although our main characters are teens, it's a thoroughly enjoyable read for adults. The whole spin on how the zombies "transform" in this story is wickedly gruesome and just plain cool. The ending is surprising and not your typical closing to a zombie apocalypse. Anyone loving this genre will enjoy this story. Worth a credit imo.

Nice twist to the undead genre!
I would classify it as a young adult book, but I'm 48 and absolutely loved it. But, I do like zombie books so I gave it a try. It had a great twist, at least not one that I've ran into before.
Macleod Andrews did a great job on the voices, especially since most of the entire dialogue was from this set of 14 year olds. Did not make them sound cheesy or anything.
I have only listened to maybe three zombie books that puts you at ground zero where the outbreak starts and the the unreal world you find yourself in. The utter chaos, everything you know is turned upside down, backwards, and inside out... within a matter of seconds! So you live the anxiety and indecisions of the characters. This one ... had some definite "Oh, Shit!" scenes that you lived through.
Thomas did a great job on this!

Scary! Couldn't stop listening.
I enjoyed the twisted idea of the Hissers. Their quickness really freaked me out and I had to hear more.

OMG!
Would you listen to Hissers again? Why?
It is the perfect horror story to listen to. It has good story lines, and it keeps your imagination going. You can actually see the terror in your mind as it is being told.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hissers?
When the plane crashed and those things were going after the living.
What does Macleod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Explicit definition of horror as it unfolds. He brings the excitement that enhances each scene.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The tag line would be when the teens were forced to make adult decisions on how to survive.
Any additional comments?
The only thing I hated about the beginning, was all the cussing. I could have done without that. The beginning was good without all the cussing he had the teens doing. But over all, the story was a good terrifying fiction.

Change of pace. Original
Any additional comments?
This book had me really surprised when I found out the main character was going to be a 14 year old boy. I’m not into the Harry Potter teen main character books. I have to say I was really surprised. I thought it was well written and deserves a listen. Original story with creepy creatures that were easy to visualize. One of the girl main characters had me rolling my eyes a little. At 14 with the supposed knowledge she had she should be out of high school not getting ready to start. Small annoying part to an overall good book. Very new way to come at this theme. Nice job I will listen to another from this author.

Stephen King... but better
WOW!
Such an unexpected awesome story. Hissers is heavily indebted to Stephen King. I've read almost every one of King's books. The story telling is fashioned in vintage 70's King style. And the characters could exist in any King novel. But this is a step beyond anything King ever wrote.
The story drags at a couple of points but only for a short while. The character development is very strong, though I felt that some of what the youngsters were internalizing was beyond the age Ryan Thomas set for them. & lastly, I have a little beef with the Hissers themselves, the story played with the abilities of the creatures in a way that made them seem too convenient depending on the plot needs.
in the end, this is a book you HAVE TO PICK UP AND READ. Or should I say, LISTEN TO.

Great narration to a fun story.
The book has some language and gore, but not overdone. There were some funny parts and some good character building in the middle of an interesting story. The narrator really made this story a lot of fun in a few scenes that had me laughing out loud.

Great exciting book from start to finish
I had held off listening to this book because I thought I would have to struggle to listen to it. Well, I was wrong! This book was thrilling all the way through and I was sad when it ended. It's a great take on the zombie formula and I could easily see this become a movie.

It ok for book that just cost $4.95
I bought this one on sell a few months back and stocked pilled for when I got low on credits. And for that reason only I gave it 3 stars. It is a predictable book with nothing innovative coming out for me. I love zombies but this came up a little short me.

Fast paced, heart stopping zombie terror! Actually caught myself mumbling the words "run, run" as I listened.
