Each one will take us a little farther down the Old Testament road until we get to the goal: to Jesus, the one in whom the whole story finds fulfillment and meaning.

"An enjoyable ride"

I'm halfway through my hitchhike with Chad Bird. it's great to have him as a tour guide because some of these prophets scare me : ) we just got picked up by Moses in Exodus.

This trip through the old testament is one I would recommend for everyone. I thought I had the realistate of the old testament well layed out in my mind, but even in Chad's consice survey I am picking up a lot of details I missed. What he has attempted in this I haven't seen done before. A complete survey of the Old Testament told in a narrative that pulls you from one scene to the next with ease. From flawed character to flawed character he weaves a cord of grace and redemption through some savage scenes and like every good tour guide reminds those with him of the destination (Jesus) around every corner.

This is a great read for anyone, but if you know someone who stays away from the old testament because of all the "potholes" this would be a great read (listen) for them.

The way he brings the Old Testament to life is truly an amazing skill, he wets your appetite for the Old Testament like no one I’ve ever heard. Listening for a 2nd time in 2 days

I don’t know if someone who has never read the Bible would fully grasp everything but it’s like cliff notes for the Bible. Wonderfully written. Excellent

Thoughtful, provoking

Chad Bird's greatest gift is to take the Bible stories we know and bring them alive in a new way. From the very beginnings of creation and the fall through to the intertestamental period and into Jesus' lifetime, this brief overview not only provides fresh insight in to old Scriptures, but does it in modern terms that anyone can understand.
Absolutely worth the time to listen to this!

Fun and Adventurous

I bought the audiobook and listened to it straight through on my way home from vacation. What a wonderful journey Chad takes us on. He starts in Genesis and ends with Christ, along the way we chronologically meet the prophets and learn how God uses each one to tell the redemptive story that can only happen through the person and work of Christ. It was easy to read/listen to but with nuggets of theological gold mingled in. Definitely worth the time whether you are a new Christian or not.

Great walk through the Old Testament with a Guide

Chad lays out the Old Testament in an understandable way hitting highs and important timeline moments. It’s a great way to go through the Old Testament.

Enlightening

This book was so enjoyable, informative and profound. Chad Bird is a fantastic writer and storyteller. He has to be if he made me fall in love with the Old Testament! Huh? I’ll have to admit that even as a believer I’ve struggled with the Old Testament. I know that it is important and holds many wonderful books. I also know that I’ve always felt like I wanted to skip over the majority of it because it seemed tedious, confusing, intimidating and at times scary. Not anymore. I listened to this book which is read by Chad himself. I found myself “bookmarking” almost everything he was sharing. Pausing and rewinding so I could hear something again. I ordered a printed copy so that I could go back and pour through it and make notes (and another to share). Chad has a keen knowledge of the OT. He also has lived a unique and at times heart wrenching life. Combine all of this with a knack for being able to distill a huge portion of the Bible into a fascinating and compelling “ride”. One that has left me eager to return for more exploring. I’m so thankful for Chad’s work and his candor.
