Publisher's summary

Here's an etiquette book that teens will want to read - because it keeps them laughing, doesn't preach, and deals with issues that matter to them, as teens themselves reported in a nationwide survey. In How Rude!, author Alex J. Packer blends outrageous humor with sound advice as he guides readers through the mysterious world of manners from A ("Applause") to Z ("Zits").

He starts by explaining why etiquette is important - because people who know how to handle themselves in social situations come out on top, get what they want, feel good about themselves, and enjoy life to the fullest. Fourteen chapters describe the basics of polite behavior in all kinds of situations at home, in school, and in the world. Teens learn how to be a host with the most (and a guest with the best), what to do (and not do) when going online or waiting in line, how to deal with rude relatives, how to act at the mall and the concert hall, how to make introductions, who invented manners, and much more.

Hundreds of "Dear Alex" questions and answers cover everything from dating to breaking up, thank-you notes to table manners, ethnic jokes to social cliques, skateboarding to celebrating. Survey results reveal what teens, parents, and teachers think about manners and why they're important. Full of practical tips for every occasion, How Rude! is a serious etiquette encyclopedia - and a hilarious read.

Featured Article: An Apology—A Perfect Tool of Life

At one or many points in our lives we will owe someone an apology, and someone will owe us one as well. Many will get it right, by simply and sincerely saying "I’m sorry." They might even add, "What can I do to make this right?" Unfortunately, some will try but render their apology null and void by saying, "I'm sorry, but..." In an earnest apology, there is no "but." Much has been written on the subject from psychologists to humorists to trusted gatekeepers of etiquette whose engaging listens will guide you to the right apology.

My 12 year old son loved it. He didn't want it to end. He was " eating it all up."

How Rude review

If you could sum up How Rude! in three words, what would they be?

Perfect for crude mouths

What did you like best about this story?

The way it talked in crude layman's terms. I have some students lacking in social skills that do not have any friends. I think this talks in their language.

Have you listened to any of Johnny Heller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I need to.

Any additional comments?

This book hits the nail on the head for some students I have, except for mentioning condoms. I wish that was left out. I also worry that this would teach my students how to light their natural gas. Other than those 2 things, this is perfect for my students I counsel that talk rough. Great job!
