The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded by Joseph Smith in 1830 in the so-called "burned-over district" of upstate New York, which was producing seers and prophets daily. Most of the new creeds flamed out; Smith's would endure, becoming the most significant homegrown religion in American history. In American Zion Benjamin E. Howe and published in 1834, presents one of the first published critiques and investigations into the origins and credibility of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS Church or Mormon Church) and its founder, Joseph Smith. The book elucidates the skepticism and criticism of early Mormonism, disputing its authenticity and alleging fraudulent and deceptive practices within its early formation.

Resumen del Editor
Several explanations for the seemingly sudden appearance of The Book of Mormon in 1829 (first published in 1830) have been put forth by historians and apologists alike. Each holds some value to its advocates while displaying obvious inconsistencies and unexplained features. However, significant new evidence necessitates the revision of all such authorship theories, including and especially the sole-authorship hypothesis—that Joseph Smith (between the ages of twenty-two and twenty-three) single-handedly composed all the sentences in The Book of Mormon through creative writing, automatic writing, or inspired dictation. Neoteric observations reveal deliberately hidden details in Mormonism’s keystone scripture that could not have been put there by Smith.
What is the real story behind how the two bookending characters (Nephi and Mormon) got their names? Where did the idea of Nephi being guided through the wilderness by a spiritually magnetic compass—a curious ball having pointers, spindles, and writing on its sides—truly come from? In this book, such details are called “Kircherisms,” a new class of anachronisms in The Book of Mormon. These Kircherisms have revealed a fresh set of influences, an undiscovered source text, and a wellspring of intriguing evidence that has never been published anywhere else.
With an infusion of new data, this book presents a novel and distinctive exegesis as well as a mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive framework for organizing and evaluating the merits of all prior authorship theories. One mechanism, in particular, has emerged as the most comprehensive, evidence-based, and satisfying explanation for how The Book of Mormon came to pass.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Joseph F. Smith was born in 1838 to Hyrum Smith and Mary Fielding Smith. Six years later both his father and his uncle, Joseph Smith Jr., the founding prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were murdered in Carthage, Illinois. The trauma of that event remained with Joseph F. for the rest of his life, affecting his personal behavior and public tenure in the highest tiers of the LDS Church, including the post of president from 1901 until his death in 1918.

Compared to the Puritans, Mormons have rarely gotten their due, often treated as fringe cultists or marginalized polygamists unworthy of serious examination. In Kingdom of Nauvoo, Benjamin E. Park excavates the brief, tragic life of a lost Mormon city, demonstrating that the Mormons are essential to understanding American history writ large. Using newly accessible sources, Park re-creates the Mormons' 1839 flight from Missouri to Illinois.

Historia
Published in 2008, Massacre at Mountain Meadows was a bombshell of a book, revealing the story of one of the grimmest episodes in Latter-day Saint history, when settlers in southwestern Utah slaughtered more than 100 members of a California-bound wagon train in 1857. In this much-anticipated sequel, Richard E. Turley Jr. and Barbara Jones Brown examine the aftermath of this atrocity. Vengeance Is Mine documents southern Utah leaders’ attempts to cover up their crime by silencing witnesses and spreading lies.

According to Joseph Smith, in September of 1823, an angel appeared to him and directed him to a hill near his home. Buried there, Smith found a box containing a stack of thin metal sheets, gold in color and covered with what appeared to be ancient engravings. Exactly four years later, the angel instructed Smith to translate the plates into English. When the text was published, a new religion was born.

Park presents a fresh, sweeping account of the Latter-day Saints.

The first book to draw upon the David O. McKay Papers at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah, David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism focuses primarily on the years of McKay's presidency.

In the single month of September 1993, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints excommunicated or disciplined six of its members. These six individuals–some of them intellectuals, some activists, and some both–were soon dubbed the “September Six.” In The September Six and the Struggle for the Soul of Mormonism, Sara M. Patterson challenges listeners to think more deeply about the events of that month and the era in which they unfolded.

Ezra Taft Benson is perhaps the most controversial apostle-president in the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For nearly 50 years, he delivered impassioned sermons in Utah and elsewhere, mixing religion with ultraconservative right-wing political views and conspiracy theories. His teachings inspired Mormon extremists to stockpile weapons, predict the end of the world, and commit acts of violence against their government.

Historia
Brigham Young was a rough-hewn craftsman from New York whose impoverished and obscure life was electrified by the Mormon faith. He trudged around the United States and England to gain converts for Mormonism, spoke in spiritual tongues, married more than 50 women, and eventually transformed a barren desert into his vision of the Kingdom of God. While previous accounts of his life have been distorted by hagiography or polemical exposé, John Turner provides a fully realized portrait of a colossal figure in American religion, politics, and westward expansion.

In 2012, Mormon General Authority Marlin K. Jensen acknowledged that members are leaving the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints "in droves". Access to the internet is often credited and blamed for this mass exodus, where members learn about problematic doctrines and cover-ups of LDS history. Many are happy as Mormons. And many are not. Those who leave, and those doubters who stay face struggles that few others can understand.

A new perspective: The historical puzzle of The book of Mormon.
"How The Book of Mormon Came to Pass" is a captivating and meticulously researched exploration into the origins of the Book of Mormon. Nielsen's extensive primary research shines throughout the book, providing a robust foundation for his arguments. By delving into historical documents, and linguistic analyses, Nielsen uncovers a new class of anachronisms that challenge the traditional narrative of the Book of Mormon's authenticity and history.
Nielsen's revelations about these anachronisms raise important questions about the text's origins and the historical context it purports to represent. His scholarly rigor and compelling presentation invite readers to reconsider long-held beliefs and engage with the evidence on a deeper level. "How The Book of Mormon Came to Pass" is an essential read for those interested in religious history and the ongoing debate over the authenticity of one of America's most intriguing religious texts.

Super Insightful
I thought the book was incredibly well thought out. I am amazed he was able to put this together. Given its length, I expected it to be wordy or boring, but I was enthralled all the way through. It was clever and super insightful, and it made so much sense to me. The only thing that bothered me slightly was the attack on Russell Nelson. I understand it, but I think it could have been left out. It will be interesting to see how this book affects the church. Personally, I think I could stay in this church if it came forward and honestly proclaimed its errors.

Brilliant, powerful, thorough. The Spaulding theory is solidified and expanded.
From Kircher to Spaulding to Rigdon to Smith, the layers of the Book of Mormon are analyzed thematically, stylistically and statistically. Compelling evidence is given and alternative theories are given a fair defense. there are Easter eggs of funny quips and double meanings throughout that only people especially familiar with the LDS church will get. Very much recommend.

Wow, Stunning!
Sitting here stunned as the final words are read from this book. This is one of few books that I will need to go back over multiple times to fully grasp as it is rich in scholarly research and so beautifully and even poetically written while maintaining balance and consideration and explanation for multiple perspectives. I deeply respect the authors ultimate desire for TRUTH not only for himself and his posterity but for all to receive.
Thank you Lars Nielsen for the many sacrifices made to bring about this book that is needed at this time more than ever as many lives have been greatly affected by Mormonism and are looking for answers and healing.
This is also a great historical resource for those that are interested in better understanding this niche of American history.

New insights to the REAL sources of the Book of Mormon
The author demonstrates the connections - both direct and indirect - between the alleged Mormon scriptures and the work of Athanasius Kertcher a 17th Century Jesuit scholar. This discovery explains the source of the alleged ‘reformed Egyptian’ alphabet, the mysterious magic compass that supposedly led members of the lost 10 tribes of Israel, and some of the names of alleged characters in Mormon lore among other things. The theses that are proposed make any any alleged revelations to Joseph Smith utterly dubious and the whole series of Mormon cults a sad case of deception foisted on millions of people over the last 2 centuries. Anyone who wishes to understand how these frauds were perpetrated needs to read this book!
