Publisher's summary

Christie Ridgway's light and breezy romances have earned glowing praise from contemporaries and critics alike. Nikki Carmichael can no longer work in a restaurant, thanks to a knee injury. So, she signs on to be hunky Jay Buchanan's private chef. Soon the heat's rising in the kitchen - and everywhere else!

Easy to Digest

Not a bad story at all. Lacked the common bad-guy scenario of many chick lit novels, so one could relax and enjoy other mysteries. The author uses creative descriptions and few cliches and I genuinely enjoyed the characters. The narrator did a fine job with the female voices and general story telling. However, her attempt at male voices drove me nutty. They ended up sounding rather dumpy...more like dim-witted garbage truck drivers than educated Malibu elites. Just not sexy. She actually did a better job with the Latino male character than the others... but even that was weird. I'd wished she just delivered their lines in her own voice. Oh well. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

Barriers and Barndoors

Even though I'm an old retired male, I enjoy romances and ones like this with some comedic moments. I grew up in a household like was described for Nikki's childhood. To gain favor all that was required was complete quiet. I did enjoy Jay's and Nikki's predilections towards each other while attempting to remain hidden in their own ways, behind their own barriers, yet both falling for each other and not seeming to want to acknowledge that crack in their hearts barrier.

I loved this book and Nicole Poole reading is my favorite. She always does great. She is the reason I bought this book, and I was very glad I did. It never left me bored and went too fast.
