Resumen del Editor

In the latest in Rhys Bowen's award-winning historical series, Molly Murphy is supposed to give up sleuthing now that she’s married, but the murder of an alderman puts her on the trail of a killer.

Molly Murphy, now Molly Sullivan, and her husband Daniel, a captain in the New York Police department, have been invited to spend their honeymoon on the Newport, RI, estate of Alderman Brian Hannan in the spring of 1904. Molly doesn’t entirely trust the offer. Hannan - an ambitious man - has his eye on a senate seat and intentions of taking Tammany Hall to get it.

When Hannan is found dead at the base of the cliffs that overlook the Atlantic, Molly’s suspicions are quickly justified, and as much as she wants to keep her promise to Daniel that she won’t do any more sleuthing now, there isn’t much she can do once the chase is on. Rhys Bowen’s brilliant wit and charm are on full display in Hush Now, Don’t You Cry, another outstanding addition to her Agatha and Anthony award-winning historical series.

I've read enough to predict the phrases Bowen will use

Overall, I enjoy the series, but this one had repetitive phrasing. In one conversation they repeated the same questions. In one scene Molly twice noted that everyone looked at her like they had forgotten she was there. I realize this is poor editing as much as writing errors.
I don't dislike Daniel as much as some reviewers because he seems to be coming around to accepting Molly for who she is.

Favorite so far

All of these stories have been great. This however is my favorite. Molly more mature and the story didn't lag.

1900s Newport Mystery with Molly Delights

Exploring Newport in the 1900s with Molly Murphy in Rhys Bowen’s "Hush Now, Don’t You Cry" was a delightful journey that took an unexpected turn. As Molly embarks on her supposed-to-be tranquil honeymoon with her husband Daniel, the plot thickens quickly with the mysterious death of Alderman Brian Hannan, thrusting Molly back into her sleuthing ways. The setting of Newport, with its gilded age glamour and dark undercurrents, is vividly rendered, making the historical atmosphere one of the book's strengths.

The unfolding of Molly and Daniel’s honeymoon highlights that marriage beginnings can be anything but smooth, adding depth to their relationship and complexity to the narrative. The story captivates with twists that defy predictability, especially towards its conclusion, making it hard to put the book down. For readers of the Catholic faith, a word of caution: there may be themes that challenge traditional views, so approaching with an open mind is advisable. Overall, "Hush Now, Don’t You Cry" is another engaging installment in Rhys Bowen’s series, where her knack for blending historical settings with compelling mysteries shines brightly.

Gotta Love that Molly

I enjoy this series, it's light and entertaining with a mystery to boot. I'm not as tough on Daniel as other reviewers because he is secondary to the story. Perhaps if Rhys Bowen reads her reviews she will consider spicing him up.I think Nicola Barber is an excellent narrator, changing her voice for each of the characters.

Second HoneyMoon Thwarted

Molly Murphy us one of the most delightful stories abd seried I have ever gotten into and fell in love with. Her character is full of entertainment and her friends are colorful. Her plots are interesting and the 1900 era is also a bit fun to explore along with her in my imagination. Knowing we had grandparents born during that time, it is fun to think of them living in those times. Having hears them talk of their lives, it brings back fond memories. But Molly adds a little history, a little fluff, a lot if inaginatiion, mystery. a little suspense, some laughter, and even allows us to imagine what strong women may have been like. I tend to believe that not all women were wall flowers and married for love. There were some Molly Murphy's in the world. At any rate, the series takes me away from the hum drum of life every day with her lighted hearted spin on life of the 1900's. The Iris Lilt is music compared to what I am used to hearing every day. And what is considered as cursing is so mild I am never insulted, and my ears are never burned by the "sex talk." No embarrassment there. It is all good. So ehat can I say but keep on writing.

Totally Molly

This was one of my favorite Molly Murphy stories. It was nice that it was all Molly and she showed her true value as a detective!! Once again Rhys Bowen did her magic in making us wait to the end to knowing who the murderer was. And Nicola had her work cut out for her with more characters, especially male characters, than normal. But as always she did an amazing job!!!

best ever!

Best story that I've heard yet in the series. just keeps getting better. It has at least two very moving scenes in which life and death hangs in the balance. I enjoy any series with a historical perspective.

Hate Daniel love most others

I still don't know if I hate Daniel because he's a 1904 ass or because of how he is voiced
