Resumen del Editor

Audie Award Finalist, Biography/Memoir, 2014

When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive.

Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I am Malala is the remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, of the fight for girls' education, of a father who, himself a school owner, championed and encouraged his daughter to write and attend school, and of brave parents who have a fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons.

I am Malala will make you believe in the power of one person's voice to inspire change in the world.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Narrator Archie Panjabi is an excellent choice to deliver this memoir of the Pakistani girl who stood up to the Taliban. Her voice is youthful, lilting, and buoyant, invoking the key qualities of the now well-known young woman who, at the age of 15, was shot three times in the face by the Taliban because she actively advocated education for girls. Panjabi narrates with vigor; rapid sentences and warm tones evoke Malala's persona. The listener has the feeling of being told this story by Malala herself rather than by an actor, which is the best type of audiobook. Those who want to hear more about Afghanistan, Pakistan's Swat Valley, or the family behind this courageous young person will not be disappointed." (AudioFile Magazine)

The memoir, as an art form, is one of the most difficult and complex to pull off. That’s why these titles are so impressive: not only are they excellent works in their own right, but they’ve achieved cultural acclaim, resonating with listeners of different ages, genders, races, religions, and identities. Often narrated by the authors themselves, these audiobooks allow listeners to be immersed in each story and feel all of the raw and unfiltered emotion that comes with them.

I am Malala

This was a great book and I recommend it, but the audible and book are not the same. I noticed the audible has extra sentences and words that are not included in the book, there were sentences in the book the audible didn’t read, etc. It was annoying and confusing.

Inspiring

Imagine you weren't allowed to gain an education or simply prevented from learning how to read. This happens to girls all over the world. Malala paid a price for speaking out. We are all human beings and deserve the chance to make life better.

Loved learning about Malala

I loved reading & listening to this book. Malala is an amazing, faithful, diligent, smart, hardworking & light hearted girl. I enjoyed learning about Pakistan culture & her village. I was deeply saddened by the violence & hatred of the Taliban. I have a lot of opinions and questions which will lead me to read & investigate her culture further. I thought the book was very well written. I would highly recommend it.

If you think you have a hard life.

Would you consider the audio edition of I Am Malala to be better than the print version?

I have not read the printed version so i can not compare it.

What did you like best about this story?

This story was very hard to listen to, it was hard to hear the terror and the fear Malala and her family had to go through but to hear how she has gone through so much and how so much of her life and world has changed but she is still the same and she still stands up and fights for what she believes in and the rights of not only herself but for everyone, and how not only her parents but also close friends and family member support her and encourage her to keep fighting and speaking and standing up to the Taliban. this book is inspiring and it is touching, it opens your eyes to what is going on not just around you but in other parts of the world, and how lives are different, and people have different struggles, you never know how good you have it until you hear a story like Malala's

Which character – as performed by Archie Panjabi – was your favorite?

Malala was my favorite, and her father. They were strong and stood up for what they knew was right and for peace. Even after going through everything that she went through she still wants to go back to her land, and she is still learning and making progress. she has not stopped and her father has staid by her side and supported her through everything. She has still stayed positive and still fights for the rights of not just girls her age but for all.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was a book that I wanted to read in one sitting, It was sad to listen to and hear how they had to fight for education, how their own people were hurting them and trying to enslave them and control them, just because they are women. I envy Malala for standing up for her rights and standing up to her nation for what is right. To hear that these horrible acts are still going on is heart breaking. We don't realize how easy we have it until you hear stories like Malala's.

Captivating story

Malala was a courageous girl who loved God, her family, country and people. Sadly many American children take for granite what she fought so hard for, education for all. It is also sad how poorly the United States is viewed by those in other countries. Politicians need to be more careful about there actions and about giving money to countries that miss use the funds they are given. I hope and pray that someday all of this evil with the Taliban will stop and that all will take wise steps to make that happen.
