Story
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Story
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Stephen A. Smith has never been handed anything, nor was he an overnight success. Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

Behind the curtain of her happy on-screen persona, Valerie Bertinelli’s life has been no easy ride, especially when it comes to her own self-image and self-worth. She waged a war against herself for years, learning to equate her value to her appearance as a child star on One Day at a Time and punishing herself in order to fit into the unachievable Hollywood mold. She struggled to make her marriage to Eddie Van Halen—the true love of her life—work, despite all the rifts the rock-star lifestyle created between them.

She is happy she has changed her life with WW
Any additional comments?
Of course she is going to sing the praises of WW. Weight Watchers helped her change her life for the better and made her slimmer and Healthier. I don't blame her for talking about WW, in fact I would have been disappointed if she had not discussed it. She is also trying to help others to get slimmer and healthier too.

A little disappointed
I LOVE Jennifer Hudson and I LOVE autobiographies. So I was a little disappointed that it wasn't narrated by her. I didn't care for the cheesy music behind the voice in places. I enjoyed hearing about her story. It was touching and inspiring. BUT I could have done without the 2 chapters of Weight Watchers commercial. Glad I listened to the book, but wouldn't listen to it again. Sorry, Jennifer! Still a HUGE fan!

Don't look down
What made the experience of listening to I Got This the most enjoyable?
I loved that she kept it positive, even with the tragedy she suffered. She spoke of it very briefly and kept looking up and ahead!
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the fact that she never let anything or anyone keep he down.. She wasnt afraid to share her wieght loss struggles. Even after her wieght loss she faced her "haters" with grace.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Shanelle Gabriel?
Yes
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me smile! She is very positive and encouraging!
Any additional comments?
I've been up and down with my wieght. Lately more up than down. But Jennifer is really encouraging. And she's living proof that it can be done, in a balanced and healthy way.

What three words best describe Shanelle Gabriel???s performance?
i don't know
Did I Got This inspire you to do anything?
It was insprining to hear that Jennifer never gave up

Starts strong, ends predictably
Would you try another book from Jennifer Hudson and/or Shanelle Gabriel?
I would definitely like to read more memoir-style writings from Ms. Hudson. Her re-telling of certain moments in her career were very emotional, especially for fans who have been following her since American Idol.
What didn’t you like about Shanelle Gabriel’s performance?
I don't understand how some words were embarrassingly mispronounced!
Did I Got This inspire you to do anything?
Ultimately, the book (and the Weight Watchers PR team/possible ghost writer) did succeed in helping re-kindle my excitement about losing weight and getting healthy again.
Any additional comments?
For the next one, leave the WW propaganda out, give us more of Jennifer - that's what we really want.

4 Hour Commercial for Weight Watchers
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This book told me little to nothing about Jennifer Hudson's life outside of her Weight Watchers experience. I would have liked to have know more about her life and the events that shaped who she is as a person. I was also hoping to learn how she coped with her family tragedy. Even if this book was all about her weight I would think that the murders were worth a mention.
Has I Got This turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. This is clearly a Weight Watchers commercial, not an autobiography. I would still listen to other books in this category.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator's constant pronunciation of the word "ask" as "axe" was beyond annoying.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from I Got This?
It was unnecessary to include the details of the weight loss journey of her relatives. Also, there were various sidebars that were really instructions on how Weight Watchers works that had nothing to do with Jennifer as a person.
