Publisher's summary

It-girl Betty White delivers a hilarious, slyly profound take on love, life, celebrity, and everything in between.

Drawing from a lifetime of lessons learned, seven-time Emmy winner Betty White's wit and wisdom take center stage as she tackles topics like friendship, romantic love, aging, television, fans, love for animals, and the brave new world of celebrity. If You Ask Me mixes her thoughtful observations with humorous stories from a seven- decade career in Hollywood. Longtime fans and new fans alike will relish Betty's candid take on everything from her rumored crush on Robert Redford (true) to her beauty regimen ("I have no idea what color my hair is and I never intend to find out") to the Facebook campaign that helped persuade her to host Saturday Night Live despite her having declined the hosting job three times already.

Featuring all-new material, with a focus on the past 15 years of her life, If You Ask Me is funny, sweet, and to the point - just like Betty White.

Pure enjoyment

What a consummate professional. Young and old actors should be exposed to her philosophy as part of their training. Such a wonderful and intelligent lady.

A wholesome and light-hearted look into the amazing love of Betty White

I absolutely loved this book, and enjoyed learning about Betty White's positive outlook on life. I strongly feel that anyone would benefit from modeling her approach in order to feel happier with the cards you've been given in life.

Felt like Friendship

I loved that Betty made me feel like we were old friends, and she was just chatting away about experiences over lunch, like we were catching up after not seeing each other for a few weeks.

Betty is always a joy to listen to, sickly sweet (as she says). Truly sunshine!

Betty Makes Me Smile

As a pretty-much lifelong fan of Betty White, I was thrilled to dive into her short book, “If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t).” This collection of short stories and reflections ready by Betty herself is a testament to her wit, charm, and enduring spirit. At her age, the fact that she could pen such an engaging book is nothing short of inspiring. I can only hope to have the capacity to write a couple of paragraphs, much less write (and read aloud on Audible) a whole book, when I reach her age!

Betty’s stories are both funny and endearing, capturing her unique perspective on life, love, and her illustrious career. While there is a noticeable amount of repetition throughout the book, it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. It felt as though the editor had stitched together her chapters in a somewhat haphazard manner, without much regard for a cohesive storyline or chronological order. However, once I accepted this, I found myself thoroughly entertained.

This book was the perfect antidote when I was on the verge of abandoning another read. I needed a break, and Betty White’s humor and warmth shine through every page, making it a comforting and enjoyable experience. She truly is an American treasure, and her presence is deeply missed. “If You Ask Me” is a charming read that offers a glimpse into the life and mind of one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons.

Betty White and that tight sweater

I don't really believe in angels but Betty what might be as close as you'll get at least in this plane of reality. great book great performance all that was missing was seeing her and those tight sweaters again. okay I'm quoting Richard Moran of Cheech and Chong. although I still think those naked photos are real at least I like to believe they are. Betty was a great person inside and out and will be missed but we have all the television and parents movies for her to live on for a very long time

Fun, light

Nothing earth shattering but a good car audio. Not too long. Betty has such a great outlook on life. That in itself is inspiring.

I adore you Betty!

I absolutely love you Betty! I have been watching you since the Golden girls. Which still happens to be one of my favorite shows of all time! I consider you a true friend and I’m convinced if we knew each other we would be friends. We are kindred spirits at hearts when it comes to animals. I love that you love them as much as I do. Bravo on a book!
