Publisher's summary

It is 1819, and Captain Adam Bolitho is ordered once again to Freetown in West Africa with secret orders for the senior officer there. The slave trade has been outlawed by many nations, but a hundred thousand slaves are still shipped out annually, the profit for slavers considered worth the risk of interception by the Royal Navy. For Adam, newly married and as fiery as ever, Africa will bring reunions and unexpected allies, and a treachery that wears the mask of friendship, and threatens the very heart of all he loves.

Too many prior missing volumes to make sense.

Between this volume and Relentless Persuit, I lost track of the characters since Sir Richards friends and family are far in the background. By the way, to read about the death of Richard you will have to buy the written volume and read almost the last paragraph of the story. As a result, to me Adam's story by reason of all of the missing prior volumes in Audible had become very uninteresting if not redundant. The missing volumes in audible during Sir Richards part of the series was annoying but one was able to follow the story and I enjoyed the series very much. Post Sir Richard. I felt there was just too much missing.

A disappointment

What would have made In the King's Name better?

The story was slow and predictable. The half sentences and the constant turmoil in the characters mind (which had mostly no reason) made it a very melancholic book.

Would you recommend In the King's Name to your friends? Why or why not?

The recent books of the series are not working for me at all.

Would you be willing to try another one of Christian Rodska’s performances?

Absolutely loved his performance. The sole reason that I got through this mediocre book was his exceptional talent.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

An outright disappointment

Any additional comments?

Would have been better to conclude the series with Richard's death...

Just plain bad

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have just finished Cross of St George and In the King's Name.
Before I say more, I’ve listen to the complete Alexander Kent Bolitho
series as well as the complete Master and Commander, Hornblower, Two
years before the mast and many many others. These two have got to be
the worst sailing books I’ve listened to by far. It’s hard to believe Kent even
wrote them. The story line is, well I’m not sure what the story line was! Rambling
and full of phrases used over and over from passed books. Retrospective and introspective at the same time. All previous books are 5 stars. I came very close
to not finishing these two.

Has In the King's Name turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

What about Christian Rodska’s performance did you like?

Great, love his work

Self Indulgent, Wordy, Wooden &Weak

stipends way to much time fleshing out things that we don't.need to hear about in this much detail. His prose isn't good enough to carry these efforts
