Publisher's summary

Mile 81 meets "N." in this collaboration between Stephen King and Joe Hill.

As USA Today said of Stephen King's Mile 81: "Park and scream. Could there be any better place to set a horror story than an abandoned rest stop?" In the Tall Grass begins with a sister and brother who pull off to the side of the road after hearing a young boy crying for help from beyond the tall grass. Within minutes they are disoriented, in deeper than seems possible, and they've lost one another. The boy's cries are more and more desperate. What follows is a terrifying, entertaining, and masterfully told tale, as only Stephen King and Joe Hill can deliver.

Okay

I don't quite understand all the bad reviews on this, it is a short story, but it's not as gory as the comments I've read. If you're familiar with Stephen King that shouldn't bother you at all, I didn't think it was that bad. To me it's worth listening too.

Intriguing from the start. Really enjoyed and would recommend to others. Narrator did a fabulous job.

Creepy and a little Sick

What did you love best about In the Tall Grass?

It was fast pasted and got to the point. I loved how creepy it was.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the girl woke up out of her daze from having the baby and her brother was chewing on her baby's leg. And she thought it was a doll leg.

Who was the most memorable character of In the Tall Grass and why?

The little boy

Any additional comments?

The short story is twisted. I loved it.

A short story

Big fan of both authors and even though it's a short story it wasn't a butt kicked. Not worth the cost. Spend a few more to get either guy's full length novels.

Wonderfully Horrid

Any additional comments?

This reminded me of some of Mr. King's earlier work, such as Graveyard Shift from the Night Shift collection, and why I fell in love with his gift for telling short stories. I found it raw (in the best sense) and that it hits you right in stomach with the well-crafted, albeit gory, imagery.

Very gory, but totally expected from King.

What did you like best about this story?

The story captures the constant reader from the beginning. It's a short story, and it leaves you wanting more. I wouldn't be surprised if King will elaborate further on the evil in this story, in some future stories. Kind of the way he did with Desperation and The Regulators.

More King than Hill, more gross than scary

Mixed, complicated feelings about this after listening.

We picked this up for a little Halloween road trip being huge fans of Joe Hill and having really enjoyed King's last few books.

And the beginning of this story is so, so, creepy. And wonderfully narrated.

When the explanation for what's in the grass comes, though, the story veers into King territory pretty hardcore. It's violent and disturbing and much more "The Regulators"-era King than "Nightmares and Dreamscapes," with a little too much "Dreamcatcher" in there. Yuck.

We don't regret the experience and it IS well written and wonderfully read, but know what you're getting into. We'd been hoping it would be a little more ofa Joe Hill story, but it is wonderful to see the two of them writing together.

The story has a great concept made overly graphic.

A lot can be said for the story but the graphic details were painful at times. I love horror but this seemed to have more of a slasher-gore feel then a uneasy building up of haunt or supernatural.

Ehh... so so

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I had an overall distaste for this story. The characters went against human nature and there was some very distasteful content. I suspect that was part of the point, but I didn't find it so much disturbing as just a little pointless.

What was most disappointing about Stephen King and Joe Hill ’s story?

I don't give spoilers, but there was content that I think was meant to be disturbing, but was more just pointless.

Do you think In the Tall Grass needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, never. Glad it wasn't a novel, I wouldn't have gotten far.

Any additional comments?

I am usually a fan of Steven King, but this one I really felt I wasted my time on. It was a bit of a shock, because I don't think I've ever said that about the books I've read or listened to. The performance was fine, it was the material.
