Publisher's summary

A troubled widow and a dashing war hero clash in this compelling regency romance.

There are worse things than being spectacularly jilted. Losing a leg, for instance, or getting shot - well, perhaps not: The bullet Alistair took fighting in the peninsula never landed him in London's scandal sheets.

Captain Alistair Beaumaris never dreamed he'd be tossed over by Lord Fairchild's bastard daughter, losing both her and her fortune - a singular humiliation that should have taught him a lesson. But when your luck is out, you do foolish things, like quarrel with your oldest friend. Or mistake a perfectly respectable widow for a lady of easy virtue.

Unfortunately, that kind of blunder needs fixing. Yielding to his troublesome conscience, Alistair tracks down the elusive widow...but the only thing he doesn't find is an easy way out.

Surprisingly good

What a perfect combination of skillful writing joined by a superb performance by the narrator.

Enjoyed every bit!

No blatant sex. Full story. Even though second of a series it was complete in itself. Main character’s story is untold slowly. I ended up admiring her strong character of loyalty despite how others had treated her. In this era, children were passed on to governesses, rarely interacting with their parents. Most books only allude to what damage it can do as the child becomes an adult but we were able to follow one small boy as he finally finds security with parents to love and accept him.

I loved this story, I'm glad I found Jaima Fixsen.
Her books are refreshing and not so dramatic.

Head scratcher

I read the first one in this series and thought it was 'different', but not that great. The author just doesn't make you care about the characters either way. I decided to give the second book a try cause I like different. 2nd book was also 'different', but, unfortunately, not any better then the first one. It was rambling in places , very chaste (although the lead lady was definitely not), and the strange story seemed a bit contrived. Hard to focus on (or care about) the story either...what there was of it. Won't continue with this series. 3 stars for attempting to break the regency romance formula though.

Fun Second Book

I really like the narrator. Except some of her male adult voices sound like bratty schoolboys. Jasper comes to mind. The third book is his story and I’ll give it a try but I don’t have much hope. I just can’t imagine seriously believing in the voice she uses for Jasper as the voice of a romantic swoon m-worthy male lead. It might work if he is chases the heroine with frogs and throws spitballs at her hair, but I’ll give it an earnest try, anyway.

This story was pleasant but nowhere near the vicinity of shattering.

It was an easy listen. I wasn't exactly happy whenever I.had to leave it. This is the third book in the series?

incognita

What did you like best about Incognita? What did you like least?

the short story was just too short, it suddenly ended and i was so surprised, that i just sat there in shock.

Do you think Incognita needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

yes

Characters seem to suffer from long-term depression

I so enjoyed the first volume in this series and was eager to listen to the second. It has Alistair, a very likable character from the first book, as a lead in the second. He continues to be likable but some of the supporting characters are less so.

For the majority of the book, most of the characters seems very depressed. There was some romance (two, in fact) but even those are surrounded by sad events and long-depressed characters. The war scenes add context to the novel, but seem to go on too long.

The book is interesting but not the cheerful romance I was expecting. I missed the two main characters from the first novel who were only mentioned but never appear.

I really enjoyed the story as a whole and I can't imagine a better narrator for these characters. Thanks again to everyone at audible for another great story
