Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

It's ok- not my favourite
Would you try another book from Gail Ingis and/or Jane Oppenheimer?
I enjoyed the narration of this story and I would listen to more of Jane Oppenheimer's work. I would another book by the author a chance.
Has Indigo Sky turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I love the genre. This isn't a bad book. It has some exciting scenes with suspenseful elements which I enjoyed a lot. However, I found myself getting bored around the half way mark. The story seemed to be going round in circles and it felt very long and dragged out

Warning: Sharp turns ahead!
Somewhere in the middle of this book the heroine goes nuts. For me, there's a huge disconnect between the pathetic socialite determined to somehow make her marriage work, and the hare-brained woman who is so frantic to force her husband to sign divorce papers that she pursues him across the country in the middle of the Civil War. It just doesn't work for me.

American History Romance 💞
I have to admit that I chose this book because Jane Oppenheimer was narrating. Ive enjoyed her narration in the past and this book is no exception. Since I've never read anything by this author, I was very pleased that this book exceeded my expectations.
The romance of Leila and Rork is a long journey of patience, trust and strength. They are both decent and honorable people who find themselves "between a rock and a hard place". Their love leads them on a course of danger, friendships, captivity and murder..
This book is a treat for those who love 19th century American history. The backdrop of this story spans from the civilized city of New York to the untamed west. I applaud the author for not shying away from including social issues such as substance abuse, domestic abuse, slavery and interracial marriage in this book. Including these issues made the story feel more authentic and the characters more real.
Note: This book does include sexual situations but no explicit sex. There is also some swearing.
I recommend this book if you enjoy romances that have a well developed story and great narration.

Murder, Kidnapping, and More ???
Any additional comments?
I liked Leila, the female lead, she is spirited and has had enough of her philandering husband.
Now enters Rork, her husband's business partner who only has eyes for Leila.
Overall, this book was a Good Read filled with Adventure and Romance.
Indigo Sky by Gail Ingis did well with the narration.

: Gail Ingis
This is a historical fiction featuring adventure and romance, set after the Civil War. The female protagonist must make choices that could change her life forever. A diverse group of characters make this story flow. The author crafted a visual story for the listener. I hope to find more works from her in the future.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.I enjoyed it very much.

Meh
A mediocre story with shallow characters. Overall it was just ok. Interesting enough to barely hold my interest but I often found myself not paying attention.
A saving grace was the wonderful narrator. She gave a wonderful performance.

Too long
Any additional comments?
I don't have a problem with long books but I think this story was trying to be a sweeping"Gone With the Wind" type narrative and, to me, it went on too long.
So many things kept happening in this book and not all of them made sense. The main character, Layla, kept doing dumb things (like heading out--by herself--into the wilds of an unknown back country "to get help" without food or a way to protect herself) and at one point, I had to step away from the book because I could not understand her level of stupidity.
I finished the listen but mostly because I enjoyed the narrator. She was incredibly pleasant to listen to and I will be looking for more books by her.

Entertaining
This was ten+ hours of twists and turns as Rourke and Lara found their way to each other. Infidelity, murder, attempted rape, slavery, freedom fighting, love lost and then found again; interracial marriages and Indians. The only part I did not like was when they made the dog soldier Indians seem as if they were the ones who broke the peace treaty when actuality it was the white men lusting after gold who defiled the Indians land. The narrator was good but on several occasions, Lara's name was pronounced one way and then another. She was an indecisive person. She was true to a husband who blatantly flaunted his mistress in front of her yet would give Rourke a hard time for loving her. Then get mad because he left. She did come to her senses finally. I loved all of the misadventures where they were so close to each other and did not know it. This book was given in exchange for an unbiased review via audiobook boom.
