Publisher's summary

#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon awakens in an Italian hospital, disoriented and with no recollection of the past thirty-six hours, including the origin of the macabre object hidden in his belongings.

“One hell of a good read.... As close as a book can come to a summertime cinematic blockbuster.” —
USA Today

“A diverting thriller.” —
Entertainment Weekly

With a relentless female assassin trailing them through Florence, he and his resourceful doctor, Sienna Brooks, are forced to flee.

Embarking on a harrowing journey, they must unravel a series of codes, which are the work of a brilliant scientist whose obsession with the end of the world is matched only by his passion for one of the most influential masterpieces ever written, Dante Alighieri's The Inferno.

Dan Brown has raised the bar yet again, combining classical Italian art, history, and literature with cutting-edge science in this captivating thriller.

As Expected, Gripping from Start to Finish!

Loved it! Dan Brown doesn't disappoint! Great character and story development with excellent believable details. I wish one of these amazing writers would write more in romance fiction!

Can't stop listening

I've been looking for a good book for a while now. Look no further, this is the book. Once you start listening, you can't stop until the very last beautiful word.

Thought provoking

As usual another amazing novel with Robert Langdon. Love the details of art history he brings everything to life. The narration by Paul Michael was spot on and made it a pleasurable listening experience. Definitely would look for other books with his narration.

On par with Dan Brown's best

There's a ton of historic details in this book that is sometimes draining to listen to. Having said that, it's all relevant and doesn't deter from the excellent story line that pulls you in right at the start and keeps you attentive throughout the entire ride. Angels and DC are still my favorites, but this one is a close third in my opinion. Ben fatto!!

Overly esthetic and a bad plot.

This is NOT an adventure/mystery/spy novel...Period!. It's an elaborate ploy to display the author's knowledge and personal opinions about art history. I found the action hard to believe. We are supposed to believe that Langdon, in the midst of being shot at, pursued and blodgeoned by the bad guys, has the time to give an in-depth explanation of the historical places he is chased through. So (as an example), while chasing the quasi-heroine through a spice market the action is stopped so we can be regaled at length with its ancient beginings. After this lengthy aside, we follow Langdon in his chase. Every immediate action is paused while a detailed description is provided of the arts' provanence. The plot, which is absurd, can be distilled into two paragraphs. If it were, however, no one would bother reading this book. The characters are cardboard cutouts. One would think that the only good sex Langdon may have had was with some ancient fresco. He certainly does not know how to relate to people. He turns out to be gulible and the reader (listener) is supposed to suspend judgment. I give it a pass as a waste of time.

a disappointment

What did you like best about Inferno? What did you like least?

This certainly is not as good as his previous books. His research is not well integrated resulting in a pedantic discourse on current events, Italy, Renaissance, architecture - and, of course, Dante. Most of of this information is irrelevant to the story which is not particularly original. To anyone who has studied The Divine Comedy, western history or traveled in Italy, it simply gets tedious and boring.

What aspect of Paul Michael’s performance would you have changed?

In many ways he does a good job, but his English pronunciation of "Beatrice" was a glaring error.

Sightseeing and mystery mixed together

Another great Langdon story.
It makes the reader want to visit the places mentioned in the story.
The story never went the way I imagined and that was another good thing.

Another Great Dan Brown Book!

Would you listen to Inferno again? Why?

No, I'm not really one for listening to books, or reading them, more than once.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Langdon, as always. But the characters in the book with him were great too.

What about Paul Michael’s performance did you like?

I thought he did all the characters well. Nothing about his performance was distracting from the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I listened every chance I got because I wanted to know what would happen next. This was a great story.

Any additional comments?

I found myself half agreeing with the villain in this story. Once I found out his motives, I couldn't help but see why he thought he was doing something good.

Another Robert Langdon formula novel

Better than 'The Lost Symbol', lacking some of the unrealistic elements common to the technical and political aspects of Brown's work. If this were a movie, it would be the "wait for the television release" variety. Barring nearly unanimous outstanding reviews of his next release, I'm done with Brown.

I did; however, enjoy Paul Michael's performance. Very well done!
