A stunning new approach to how individuals can not only change their lives for the better in the workplace, but also their lives away from the office, including (but not limited to) finding ways to improve one's working relationship with others, one's overall health, outlook on life, and so on. For example, why is it that 95% of all diet attempts fail? Why do New Year's Resolutions last no more than a few days? Why can't people with good intentions seem to make consistent and positive strides in the way they want to improve their careers, financial fitness, physical fitness, and so on?

Story
Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed best seller Made to Stick. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie.

Why can't people with good intentions seem to make consistent and positive strides in the way they want to improve their careers, financial fitness, physical fitness, and so on?

Part of My Routine
Not only is the content logical and helpful to me, but I listen to this audio book every morning when I wake up at 6. The information helps my brain awake and keeps me in tune with my goals. Change Anything and Influencer are my bible.
I exercise, I eat better, I finally have a consistent sleeping schedule and, just yesterday, I was recognized at my job for my work achievements, all due to acting on the strategies from these two books.
I am not good at sitting down to plan for strategies, find the viral behaviors, etc, and I still manage great personal improvements by using awareness and remembering this book in the moment. Therefore, I vouch for this book wholeheartedly because it is likely you can make use of it to a larger extent than I have so far.
Warning, influencing others is tougher for me. I have successfully used some techniques, but if you seek great changes on others, you will have to seriously plan how to apply the strategies on this book. It takes great time and effort, but it is worth it.

Well researched, well presented
The authors used key educational and cognitive psychology research to support a very interesting premise. I've been studying much of the same research as part of an education technology master's program. The authors took this research and evaluated how these cognitive tools can be used not just to teach concepts, but to spread influence.
The biggest take away I gained from listening to this book is that to influence a group it is important to find and target the opinion leaders of the group. My job is to train adults. Studying cognitive psychologists has given me much insight into how people learn, and while teaching folks what they need to know on the job is important, any trainer can tell you that it takes more than teaching concepts successfully to bring about changes in the workplace. As soon as they step out of the training room or away from the computer, most people go right back to the way they were doing things before.
I look forward to making use of the authors' insights to influence as well as teach!

Would you listen to Influencer again? Why?
Yes, the author shared many remarkable ideas for creating influence. It cannot all be learned in one reading.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Influencer?
Some of the anecdotes stand out as great examples of influencing the desired behavior as well as examples of failed attempts.
Which scene was your favorite?
Curing the guinea worm epidemic.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
That anyone can be an influencer.

Engineer Success: Focus on key behaviors
Would you listen to Influencer again? Why?
Yes. In addition to the anecdotal illustrations of the method's success, the book offers some good strategies for building your own successes by focusing on key behaviors ( as change or measure agents) and then engineering environments to give them a fighting chance.its a very compact and accessible book. Worth a first listen and again as a reference and resource.
Any additional comments?
To communicate its content more effectively, the title of the book should have been more potent. Influence is such a subtle word. I would not describe the inspiring, world class change agents described in the book only as influencers. This book is about ACTIVE and DIRECT engagement in problem solving in a very focused and pragmatic way.. Something that keyed off Engineering Success or Master Change Agent would convey the content more effectively.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend this to a friend who's just learning how to influence others. But, if they've read
Could you see Influencer being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No, possibly the sub-story of the worms could be made into a movie, and maybe Bruce Willis or Julia Roberts be the scientists that help to develop a way to fight off the worms.
