Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. A great suspense book!
I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story was well written and easy to follow long with. Emily really knows how to write a story that is enjoyable and grabs you from the beginning.

Love the Story!
I absolutely love this story, and read the physical copy, I always love to listen to books I’ve read to fully envelope in the story. The Story was gripping and I followed along so well. I didn’t really care for the narrator, in my mind she didn’t fit the FMC, and I also prefer duet narration, but overall loved it!

This book kept me on my toes!
I have read a few of Emily's books so far and I have loved each and every one. This one is no different. Getting a chance to listen to someone read this was just another layer. You could feel the emotions from the narrator as she read some of the more heart-breaking chapters. Near the end, I questioned how big a cliff hanger would Emily have since I knew there was a sequel. I am happy that how this book ended was not how I thought it would end. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Detective Megan Nell.

Wow
I genuinely enjoyed this book! It was different than most of my reads but a good read. Two sides and will keep you on your feet with all emotions. Well written and accurate on law enforcement terms. I would recommend this book and definitely read more from the author!

Stunning!!!
I had the pleasure of reading this as a regular book before an audio book. I have a hard time sitting down and getting hooked into books because I normally get bored. Well if your are looking for a book that will suck you in and not want to put it back down, this is your book! There is never a dull moment at all in this book! The lady who voices this book will have you sucked with the way she reads it! This book will have you crying, angry and on the edge of your seat the whole time! Overall this book is still an amazing read and now it also an amazing listen!

Great suspense
I love Emily’s writing. She takes the time to develop the characters and bring them to life. I also love a strong MFC that works through her trauma and comes out even stronger in the end.

It’s great but needs…
The story itself is great. The reader of the story doing the narration is not the right fit for the story. She speaks very monotone through the whole thing. There’s no joy or sorrow or anger in her voice during the parts of the story where somebody while reading it Would change their voice. The plot is good but it needs more buildup. There was not a lot of buildup to it. It could’ve used more. I would not necessarily call it a cliffhanger ending, but it does say this is book one and I’m not quite sure after what could really happen in a second book. I feel it would’ve been better to tell the story of Mel and Greg with everything that’s already there and just make it longer to complete their story instead of trying to separate it into multiple books. I would seriously be grateful to be handed the second book for this series to see if the plots get better or not, but I would recommend having somebody else do the narrating for the audiobook. You need somebody who can change their tone and pitch to match what’s going along in the book because monotone kind of ruins, the story and kind of makes the listener zone out or want to go to sleep.

This was a great story. And the narrator did an amazing job bring the characters to life. I enjoyed every minute spent reading this book. I hope to have the chance to read more by this author.

An Amazing ride, but make sure to check TW!
Usually this isn’t the genre I read but I was very glued to this story since the beginning. What a whirlwind of emotions. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire time. I didn’t want the book to end, but what a satisfying conclusion to an amazing ride. Definitely a must read/listen. The narrator did a good job at narrating for everyone.
