Publisher's summary

Magical house, insane killer, and life-altering decisions - being an adult sucks.

I did it: I've graduated, and there's no more pressure. And I've got a house - me, a house! Road-trip time for Jo, Sable, and I up to Albany, New York. The house both is and isn't what I expected. Beautiful - yes. Locked rooms with mysterious stuff - yes. But it also seems alive, which isn't possible. This isn't a movie, houses aren't alive.

But before I get to finish exploring the house, the draft office has decided I need another trial run, and of course Agent Steven Alixant is their errand boy. Before I get a chance to figure out anything - there are some odd things about that house - I'm dragged off to New York City to help catch a serial killer. Which makes no sense. A bachelor's degree doesn't make me Sherlock Holmes. Things are going well, I guess. Is it a good thing to figure out clues about a serial killer's identity?

But when I get a phone call that something has happened to Jo and Sable is when things get dangerous. I'm going to have to make a bunch of decisions, and I hope I can save Jo and Sable, even if it ends up costing me my life. When your luck is as twisted as mine, nothing is ever straightforward.

A found-family, non-romantic urban fantasy with a smattering of magical beasties.

The World Keeps Getting Bigger & More Complex

Every time Corey turns around, she is learning something more about the world she thought she knew. I adore her relationship with her best friend!

Mel Todd, I think you might be my crack dealer because every time I finish one of these books, I'm jonesing for the next one.

Autumn Juliet does another stunning performance in bringing the world to life.

Narrator still mispronounces some words, love the story

I love this series and the narrator is trying her best, but she pronounced ‘triad’ as TREE-ad and disagree with how she pronounces Carelian, Jeorgaz, and Arachena. and don’t get me started on ‘Guzman’. I hope the narrator can improve her pronunciations because her pace isn’t bad and I think she really fits the character.

Good story but....

The main character is so very annoying, with her constant whining and self-pity, and then she also acts self-righteous with others who try to help her and then she is constantly talking about people leaving her when they clearly have said otherwise multiple times. And let's not forget that she constantly complains about not having her own life or having to do what others said; That's life suck it buttercup. But the thing that really aggravates me is the narrator, she can't read very well, her inflections are constantly off, her pronunciations are constantly wrong for words that should be easy to pronunce and that are constantly used. Her pronunciations of Spanish words is terrible and I don't even speak Spanish but I know they are wrong. Otherwise I love the story and concepts so far.
