Gripping story

The story was interesting and haunting, but hard to follow due to the narration. Punctuation and inflection as well as the voice overs were poorly executed.

Worth the Listen

Many other reviews trash the narration as bland and flat. I'm glad I listened to a sample because I really enjoyed the narration! She was more subtle with different characters and she didn't over perform it. It was a good story!

Excellent book

I read the reviews and almost didn’t get the book because of the negative reviews about the narrator but I got it anyways and I’m glad I did which story was excellent the characters were excellent the narrator was great I don’t understand what all these people had a problem with her I’m so glad I didn’t listen I enjoyed this book so much I can’t wait for the sequel I finished up in just a couple days

Well crafted

A very satisfying listen/read, skilfully woven by the author and well performed by the reader.

Eh.

The story was ok, not particularly riveting. The narrator sounded like she had a cold throughout the whole middle section, which was distracting. The writing felt a bit like a conservative house-wife's first novel, with almost preachy views entangled into the narrative.

Lisa Unger Does Not Disappoint

I just recently discovered Lisa Unger and her gift for writing psychological thrillers. Her heroines are always strong willed, often complicated, sometimes conflicted individuals who, from my point of view, make them much more interesting. I’ve read some reviews that have criticized the narrator Molly Pope and I truly don’t know why. I think Ms. Pope captured the essence of the main character especially, a young woman just entering adulthood, not sure of her place or purpose in the world. I think most 21 year olds experience this. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and finished it in a couple of days. I’m looking forward to discovering another Lisa Unger book with anticipation.

Finnley was read as a little bratty at times and I didn't fell that the narrator did her justice.

Good, but hard to follow. Uninspiring narrator.

There were too many storylines to follow that weren't clearly marked. The narrative was fairly bland.

What didn’t you like about Molly Pope’s performance?

Robotic, monotone. Like she was just learning to read. No emotion, didn't sound natural at all.

A jewel of a ghost story

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Kept me up into the night, had to know what happened. Lots of little surprises and subplot mysteries that are eventually resolved in unexpected ways.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, almost did.

Any additional comments?

I never re-hash the plot outlines in my reviews because the publisher has already done that. Wonderful characters, rich atmosphere and very zippy pacing. Only nitpicking from me would be that the wrap-up chapters are a little long, but after the fast paced trip through the psychic's wild ride in time and space, gathering frustrating glimpses of tantalizing clues it doesn't matter. My reaction: Really well done and well worth the credit.
