日本でコスプレを楽しむのは圧倒的に女性が多く、コミケ会場にはメイク道具や衣装の入ったキャリーバッグを持った女性が大集合。さらに、彼女たちの姿を写真に撮ろうとするカメラ小僧も大勢集まります。
2003年からは、コスプレ世界一を決める「世界コスプレサミット」が名古屋でスタート。今では、30以上の国や地域から参加者が集まる大イベントになっています。
