Publisher's summary

The remarkable first novel by a young, gay, Black author who fashioned a deeply moving and compelling coming-of-age story out of the controversial issues of bisexuality and AIDS. Law school, girlfriends, and career choices were all part of Raymond Tyler's life, but there were other, more terrifying issues for him to confront.

Being Black was tough enough, but Raymond was becoming more and more conscious of sexual feelings that he knew weren't "right." He was completely committed to Sela, his longtime girlfriend, but his attraction to Kelvin, whom he had met during his last year in law school, had become more than just a friendship.

Fleeing to New York to escape both Sela and Kelvin, Raymond finds himself more confused than ever before. New relationships - both male and female - give him enormous pleasure but keep him from finding the inner peace and lasting love he so desperately desires. The horrible illness and death of a friend force Raymond, at last, to face the truth.

Invisible Life has been hailed as "one of the most thought-provoking books - since James Baldwin's Another Country" (Richmond Voice), and Harris's "stories have become the toast of bookstores, reading groups, men, women, and gay and straight people" (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

"A quick, entertaining and thought-provoking read - This is a compelling story that commands and holds the attention until the final page is turned." ( Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

This book was touching

Although back and 2002 right around that time, I remember reading this book when I was working in the call-center for AT&T doing my spare time waiting for call to come in. However, I am the type of person who read books, but then I have to read it over again in order to really get the understanding of it. This is one of the books that I did not go back and read however, I bought several of these books, but the other years moving back-and-forth I lost them. It was very enjoyable actually listen to this book. More clearly and understanding ever everything. I’m reading without interruption from waiting calls on queue. This book been out for many years, but this is the first time I have to admit that I’ve got through the whole chapters the whole book. I have to let you know. I’ve listened to it while I was at the gym. But the most enjoying part is when I’m at home alone, and I find myself envisioning myself in the scene of the book. I’m not sure how old you are and how young you are, but this book is in history that needs to be read. I had to meet years ago I believe it was right around 2003. I had a chance to see this writer. I was driving and I stopped at a gas station and Valdosta. And I remember seeing him I knew he was, but I wasn’t sure. I started staring at him trying to wonder where do I notice this guy from? But then it hit me when I walked into the store. It was the writer of the book that I am trying to finish reading. I remember him looking at me looking at him or should I say staring at him. He got into his black Mercedes. All I did was watch as he drove off sharing a look I’m sure what are you looking at or staring at? But my mine was on. I do this guy. I just can’t remember where I’ve seen him from. It was a picture of him from one of his books. I remember staring at it over and over again as I was working at this call, wondering if this book was about his lifestyle. at that time I was into the church very deeply religiously wise although I was reading his book I thought everything about it was abomination for the most part. Nevertheless, the book is a history book telling the life of back then which steel exist today. It’s a must read.

Gone too soon

I first discovered E. Lynn in 2000 by that time he was already on his sixth book! I went through each myriad of emotions reading all of his books. It felt like he was telling my life story! Through his books I found inspiration to write my own books. I pray that God gives me the ability to touch people's lives as E. Lynn did! I really would've kept reading as he kept writing. I wander what's going on with Basil, Yancey and Raymond? Hopefully someone will pick up where E. Lynn left off!
