Amazing!

This story is an utterly delightful summer adventure. Denise does an amazing job bring this tale to life, sucking you into Carrie’s story of Bert and Bettie on summer holiday on an island full of mystery and discovery.

A fantastic voyage!

Island of Stars is a real adventure story. Carrie takes you on a fantastic voyage indeed. She is a gifted story teller who has developed the story and its characters well. She weaves mystery and intrigue throughout the story keeping you wondering what could be next. I especially liked the theme that our days are numbered and that is beautiful and beneficial to one's life. This is an uplifting tale that children of all ages would likely enjoy.

A Fantastical Summer Adventure!

This story is a blend of history, adventure, and fantasy! It is an excellent book for middle grade children but this adult loved every chapter, too. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I have both the hardback and the audio version. One can't go wrong with either but this is a perfect roadtrip listen, highly engaging, and beautifully performed.

Very satisfying adventure story!

This book was beautifully written with a perfect balance of mystery and suspense, mixed with lovely dashes of humor. It's a rollicking good time! And the narrator was a delight - a lovely listen! I wish there were more stories written today like this!

Fun and intriguing!

Enjoyable for young and old! It started out slow, but then I couldn’t put it down!

Carrie's debut novel is fantastic! Denise's narration is amazing! If you like middle grade fiction and/or history with a bit of fantasy thrown in, don't miss this wonderful story!!

Enchanting Old-Fashioned Storytelling

I loved the old fashioned feel of this story! The writing style was lovely and imaginative and the story itself had all kinds of charming folklore and plot twists that were both engaging and intriguing! There was a brief lag in the story at one point, but it quickly passed.

I audiobooked this read and the narrator pleasantly surprised me as I don’t normally like female narrators. However, Denise Hoey’s voice illustrated the different personalities of the characters and feel of the story perfectly!

In short, I am going to miss escaping into this novel now that it is over and I know I will return to it in book form. I’ll need to mark some of the lovely passages. There is one line in particular about sea foam and pearls that I found especially beautiful.

I loved it!

This was such a lovely story! I really enjoyed the adventures of the kids and the references to history and mythology. Very well written too. This is definitely a book I will be reading my boy when he gets a bit older and probably one I'll be giving as gifts to the young people in my life!

Great Story for kids!

I’m a grandma and just listened to this book, and really enjoyed it! I believe, as did CS Lewis, that good books for kids should also be enjoyed by adults.

This story has mystery and intrigue, danger, and situations requiring bravery. All done without violence or bad language.

I know that my grands will enjoy this book!

Superstar Debut

Wonder and adventure-filled, this debut book has an old-world feel. Charming character names, family dynamics, and oozing with that which is true, good and beautiful this story will entertain and inspire children and adults. I loved the narrator and everything about this story. Highly recommend! Now to go and read more about a certain character from Elizabethan history…
