Publisher's summary

The JPS TANAKH: The Jewish Bible, audio version, is a recorded version of the JPS TANAKH, the most widely read English translation of the Hebrew, or Jewish, Bible. Produced and recorded for The Jewish Publication Society (JPS) by The Jewish Braille Institute (JBI), this complete, unabridged audio version features over 60 hours of readings by 13 narrators. For help navigating the audio version, download the listeners guide below.

Regarded throughout the English-speaking world as the standard English translation of the Holy Scriptures, the JPS TANAKH has been acclaimed by scholars, rabbis, lay leaders, Jews, and Christians alike. The JPS TANAKH is an entirely original translation of the Holy Scriptures into contemporary English, based on the masoretic (the traditional Hebrew) text. It is the culmination of three decades of collaboration by academic scholars and rabbis, representing the three largest branches of organized Judaism in the United States.

Narrated by Michael Bernstein, Theodore Bikel, Bruce Feiler, Tovah Feldshuh, Norma Fire, Kathy Ford, Lisa Kirsch, Harold Kushner, MD Laufer, Elizabeth London, Francie Anne Riley, Jonathan Roumie, and Marciarose Shestack.

Funding for this recording is made possible through the generosity of Aaron Feingold, M.D., in memory of Esther Feingold, who saw life "with a good eye" (Pirke Avot); Dr. Seymour and June Kessler, in memory of Harry and Rose Kessler, remembered with love; and Norman and Edith Weisfeld, in loving memory of Benjamin and Rose Krumholz, and David Weisfeld.

What organization?

Sorry it is a mess moving around the way its organized. Best is to keep it simpler to find book chapter and verse.

Can't find the sections

I give the recording and the readers 5 stars - the editors not so much - perhaps a 1. There is no correlation between what you put in your PDF guide, and what is in the book. I'm on "chapter 38" on the recording, (Numbers) but in the guide it's listed as book 2, number 7. That makes NO sense. These should be labeled by name and parachat - ie Numbers Hukkat. The extra books should be labeled by name and location. Even if you gave consistent track numbers it would help. Even if you just give Parshat name or book name we'd have something to go on

Audio version needs a "Table of Contents "

Any additional comments?

I would love to listen to selected passages, but I am unable to find a way to navigate. I feel this is particularly important for an audio Bible.

I was moved as God forgave and loved his people.

There is no other ancient writing like this. I was there in the story. I was moved by God's love for his people. The clarity of the text is remarkable. I have read many many ancient religious texts but none of them hold a candle to the Tanakh. God's relationship with mankind is clear.

Worth every penny

I like to listen to the parsha before I delve into further research. This is a good way to start every week.

Better Supplemental Audio Info

Where does JPS Tanakh rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Number one

Any additional comments?

You need to provide a supplemental itemized list of the digital recording time line for each book of the Tanakh and the appropriate chapter

Amazing translation and reading

Excellent reading. Completely changed my relationship with this ancient and important collection of texts.

Just wish there was a better way to search through the text and know what book you're in. There are no section titles: just 797 chapters.
