Publisher's summary

Edgar Award-winner and fan favorite Joe R. Lansdale is back with Hap and Leonard's latest caper: investigating the disappearance of a revivalist cult leader's daughter.

Hap and Leonard are an unlikely pair - Hap, a self-proclaimed white-trash rebel, and Leonard, a tough-as-nails, black, gay Vietnam vet and Republican - but they're the closest friend either of them has in the world. Hap is celebrating his wedding to his longtime girlfriend, Brett (who is also Hap and Leonard's boss), when their backyard barbecue is interrupted by a couple of Pentecostal white supremacists. They're not too happy to see Leonard, and no one is happy to see them, but they have a problem, and only Hap and Leonard will take the case.

Judith Mulhaney's daughter, Jackrabbit, has been missing for five years. Well, she's been missing from them for five years, but she's been missing from everybody, including the local no-goods who ran with her, for a few months. Despite their misgivings about Judith and her son, Hap and Leonard take the case. It isn't long until they find themselves mixed up in a revivalist cult that believes Jesus will return flanked by an army of lizard-men - solving a murder to boot.

With Lansdale's trademark humor, whip-smart dialogue, and plenty of ass-kicking adventures to be had, you won't want to miss Hap and Leonard's latest.

First Time

This is my first time listening to a book by J R Lansdale. I truly enjoyed the narration. Christopher Grant did an excellent job with each character's voice and expressing their emotions.
One can hear and feel the joy, the hurt and angry each character expressed.
The story was well written. The words give a very good description of the characters and the location of the story. And, there is humor interspersed
throughout the story. This was a good read. This is not for you, if you have interracial and intergender concerns.

First time with Hap and Lenoard

This is the second book I read of Mr. Lansdale. The first was Paradise Sky. His writing style is so deliciously descriptive. You feel, hear, taste every word. His stories are completely immersive. Mr. Grants performance is delightful. He moves back and forth from each character so easily you would think 5 people are narrating. I am so glad an acquaintance told me about his real life writing style. There is nothing soft in his style, but he brings the reader to sympathize and empathize each bloody detail. Thank you for not writing fluff, thank you for writing about the ugly parts but still finding beauty. A fun book. A book for adults!!

Surprise MFers!

Love this book. Lansdale never fails to make me laugh and make me think. I always want to grab a Dr. Pepper with Hap and Leonard. I’ll even bring extra vanilla cookies

Smile's all the way through

Would you listen to Jackrabbit Smile again? Why?

As a fan of the series, I've read many of the books more than once, and I figure I will get around to a second listen on all of them. They are an enjoyable way to pass the time.

What about Christopher Ryan Grant’s performance did you like?

From his first performance on Honky Tonk Samurai, Grant established himself as Hap. With an easygoing flow, that ramps up at the right times, I've been well ensconced in Hap and Leonard's world.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually did that!

More of the same Hap and Leonard

Usual Hap and Leonard story, but well that's what we like. Good narrator as well.

Always a Five Star!

I love Hap and Leonard! Always nice to hear a story read at a decent pace that I don’t have to speed it up. I still sped it up to 1.2 but it doesn’t lose inflection at that speed. Of course if you have read or heard a H&L book or seen the show, the story is well written- I needn’t say more!

❤️ Hap and Leonard

Another Hap and Leonard adventure, with all the usual elements - raunchy, humorous dialogue, bizarre characters, and plenty of violence. The plot is thin to non-existent, but this series is all about the characters. And I can't rave enough about the narrator ! Christopher Ryan Grant is fabulous !

Jackrabbit Smile

Good storyline. Phrasing elementary; "He said," et al. disrupts dialogue flow between characters for listener.
