Publisher's summary
At the bedside of a dying child, Dr. Rick Sheff, a nationally respected physician, realizes that the easy answers of his atheist upbringing and scientific training fail him. Driven to find the truth behind the world we see without abandoning rigorous science, his spiritual journey takes him to Oneness University in India, the healer John of God in Brazil, and the site of Marian visions in Medjugorje.
Yet Dr. Sheff discovers the real journey is inward, awakening to the wonder that nothing needs to change to be in joy in every moment, to be healed, to find our way to our true essence, the essence of everyone and everything: love. Dr. Sheff demonstrates for all of us that if we have the courage to follow our path wherever it may lead, to allow our preconceived beliefs to be shattered by truth, we will experience an astounding journey to joy.

Story
There are pivotal moments in the lives of all seekers when we realize that we've been traveling on our path of growth toward happiness and fulfillment, but, simply put, we want to go faster. How we have been living, working, and loving just isn't enough or even acceptable anymore. We know we're being called to something more significant and expanded - we can feel it. At these times what's needed is not simply more change or an adjustment in our outer life but profound transformation.

Shaman, meaning "intermediary between spirit and the natural world", has become a much overused word in the West. It's not a job title one can give oneself, and in indigenous societies a shaman is usually born to this role. Ya'Acov Darling Khan is one of the few Westerners who have been acknowledged as shamans by indigenous elders or teachers. After being hit by lightning, Ya'Acov took a 30-year journey into the heart of shamanism to seek his own healing and to learn how he could serve others with the wisdom he acquired through his experiences.

In The Anatomy of a Calling, Lissa Rankin, MD, makes a simple yet revolutionary claim: We are all, every single one of us, heroes. We are all on what Joseph Campbell calls "a hero's journey"; we are all on a mission to step into our true nature and fulfill the assignment our souls were sent to Earth to fulfill. Navigating the hero's journey, Dr. Rankin argues, is one of the cornerstones of living a meaningful, authentic, healthy life.

Started out great, then became a bit “out there”.
Also googled a person much talked about in the book only to learn that person has since been accused of crimes against women. Disappointing.
