Publisher's summary
Craig Johnson’s rough-and-tumble hero Walt Longmire is quickly becoming a fan-favorite and a critical success.
Here Walt has his hands full as greedy land developers employ shady, violent methods to reverse their fortunes in recession-racked Wyoming, where the owners of a multi-million dollar development of ranchettes want to get rid of the adjacent junk-yard. When a severed thumb is discovered in the yard, conflicts erupt, and Walt Longmire, his trusty companion Dog, life-long friend Henry Standing Bear, and deputies Santiago Saizarbitoria and Victoria Moretti find themselves in a small town that feels more and more like a high plains pressure cooker.

But the truth is, after losing a child and a marriage, Tom doesn’t really care.

Excellent writing and outstanding narration
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a really, really good series. Makes you want to book your next vacation to Wyoming, find the Busy Bee Cafe and wait to see these folks wander in.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I have to say, Dog really shines in this one. Along with Butch and Sundance.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
That cowboy drawl of Walt's, the Bear's very complete sentences, and Vic's Philly profaneness are all right there - just wouldn't be the same in printed page.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Sex, drugs, and man's best friend

Fun
Good story, fun read. Mr. Guidall thinks he's Walt. He's not. And he can't read women. That sounds like an unfair criticism, but I don't think so. Others do, and don't sound cloying or patronizing. Vic should give him a swift kick. But the story's very good.

I find I like reading these books in print a great deal. I think it may be a generational tick because I need more time to let memories roll through the language. This book is so strong in story and humor that the gorgeous voice of Guidall can hold everything in one place so well that the joy of a good story, a funny story, and the real pleasure of listening are a single experience.

Another great read from Craig Johnson
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definately recommend this and any of the Walt Longmire stories. I enjoy the wit of the author and just as much, the way they are read. The characters are believable and I enjoy the obviously well read author's observations. He is always self-effacing and wise at the same time.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Longmire with Henry Standing Bear as a close second.
Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Just the Longmire series. It took me a little while, with my first read to get used to his pace, but I am there now and I always have a hard time waiting for the next.

How not to clean a chimney
While I wasn't crazy about the plot, an "okay" book by Craig Johnson is better than 99% of most other authors. The lesson about "how not to clean a chimney" (kerosene, grandpa and a rope tied to a car) still makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Typical, masterful storytelling and narrating
It is hard to put in words how much joy I get in visiting Mr. Johnson's vivid, interesting and even lovable characters and locations, but this is my simple attempt. Buy these books. All of them. Even the least of them is far better than most any other novel I can name. This particular one is now one of my favorites because you get some more insight into Walt's character that I had yet to see before, but I can't say why without spoiling it, so I won't.
