Publisher's summary

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Nobody outfoxes Fantastic Mr. Fox!

Someone's been stealing from the three meanest farmers around, and they know the identity of the thief - it's Fantastic Mr. Fox! Working alone they could never catch him; but now fat Boggis, squat Bunce, and skinny Bean have joined forces, and they have Mr. Fox and his family surrounded. What they don't know is that they're not dealing with just any fox - Mr. Fox would rather die than surrender. Only the most fantastic plan can save him now.

Esio Trot

An ancient spell, 140 tortoises, and a little bit of magic...

Mr. Hoppy is in love with his neighbor, Mrs. Silver; but she is in love with someone else - Alfie, her pet tortoise. With all her attention focused on Alfie, Mrs. Silver doesn’t even know Mr. Hoppy is alive. And Mr. Hoppy is too shy to even ask Mrs. Silver over for tea. Then one day Mr. Hoppy comes up with a brilliant idea to get Mrs. Silver's attention. If Mr. Hoppy's plan works, Mrs. Silver will certainly fall in love with him. After all, everyone knows the way to a woman’s heart is through her tortoise.

The Enormous Crocodile

The Enormous Crocodile is a horrid greedy grumptious brute who loves to guzzle up little boys and girls. But the other animals have had enough of his cunning tricks, so they scheme to get the better of this foul fiend, once and for all!

The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me

Who needs a ladder when you’ve got a giraffe with an extended neck?

The Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company certainly doesn't. They don’t need a pail, either, because they have a pelican with a bucket-sized beak. With a monkey to do the washing and Billy as their manager, this business is destined for success. Now they have their big break - a chance to clean all 677 windows of the Hampshire House, owned by the richest man in all of England! That’s exciting enough, but along the way there are surprises and adventures beyond their wildest window-washing dreams.

Critic reviews

“Roald Dahl sometimes shared a tonal kinship with Ogden Nash, and he could demonstrate a verbal inventiveness nearly Seussian...[His] stories work better in audio than in print.” (The New York Times)

Some information for listeners

Would you consider the audio edition of Fantastic Mr. Fox and Other Animal Stories to be better than the print version?

I love all Roal Dahl stories and I have most of them printed but having them in audiobook is an unmistakable good choice.

What did you like best about this story?

Roal Dahl was amazing with language writing as if the stories were songs. ¡They are full of music! Then, as English is not my own language I really enjoy to listen them in those wonderful performances.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I follow Stephen Fry in almost all his works and one can have a guarantee of an enjoyable time.

Any additional comments?

Cute Kids Stories

I enjoyed all the stories very much the first one was the best with the fox. I like the narrator's accent. The story about The Tortoise has some wrong information . You do not feed a tortoise ( cabbage mentioned in the story ) or iceberg lettuce it will cause them to have diarrhea and die. The stories were good Children's story We enjoyed them. 😃 Happy Listening

great bang for the buck-entertaining

What made the experience of listening to Fantastic Mr. Fox and Other Animal Stories the most enjoyable?

The narration was awesome by each narrator. I adore the Fantastic Mr.Fox and I was happy to become acquainted with the other 3 stories.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not listened to any of these narrators previously. I really enjoyed Chris O'Dowd though and felt he did my favorite story justice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, definitely.

Any additional comments?

I agree with many of the other commenters that it would have been helpful to have each story clearly delineated. I made bookmarks for each to make it easier when I go back to listen again.

Interesting

I downloaded this book so that I could share my love of “reading” with my 6 year old. I really wanted Esio Trot, but it was only available as an audio in this set. I was unfamiliar with the 3 other stories; the voices and some of the story in Fantastic Mr. Fox scared her and the story about the crocodile also scared her. Overall, we did enjoy this but I think I would’ve preferred to have read it to her myself.

Incredible ensemble

Such a fun, expertly executed reading by a top notch caste. Can it get any better than Hugh Laurie serenades? Or Chris O'Dowd as Fantastic Mr Fox?
