Publisher's summary

The Deborah Knott mysteries have won a devoted following, as well as Edgar, Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity awards. Readers across the country love Judge Knott's new southern woman's sensibilities and the intelligence she uses to unravel the snarled cases that come her way. Killer Market takes the quintessential steel magnolia to the hub of North Carolina's massive furniture industry. Although she's there to sub for a fellow judge, Deborah soon gets caught up in the whirl of the International Home Furnishings Market and finds herself a suspect in a high-power murder case. The feisty judge must use her courtroom experience and intuitive skills to strip through layers of deception if she is to clear her own name. Margaret Maron draws from her own rural southern roots to craft her trademark authentic settings and characters. C.J. Critt, with her perfect comic timing and hint of a southern accent, brings out the full flavor of Maron's insider's North Carolina.

Margaret Maron & C.J. Critt

What did you love best about Killer Market?

Margaret Maron and C. J. Critt make an wonderful team. C. J. Critt could read anything and make it fun, but when she has Margaret Maron's book to read, it's over the top.
This is a wonderful book in the middle of a wonderful series about Judge Caroline Knott.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the relaxed and gentle way the people interacted. The mystery. The situations Judge Knott gets herself into. While the suspense is present, it doesn't get too scary.

What about C.J. Critt’s performance did you like?

C. J. Critt can make you believe you are in the middle of the story. She is my favorite all time reader/actor. She really does act out the scenes in a wonderful way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole book was wonderful from beginning to end.

Margaret Maron is mistress of mystery!

Another fun Deborah Knott mystery this one is set at the Furniture Market. Another interesting setting for another interesting story! Visit Deborah's court and then follow her thru the real mystery here. C. J. does a great job portraying the characters of this story!

Good stuff

Deborah Knott travels to another town to yet again sub for a fellow judge. And, naturally, a murder happens. Enjoy!

A dramatic reading of a fun mystery..

I love these books! It's hard to turn them off! Deborah is a heroine for all women to admire. She's forever getting herself into the middle of a murder! She always is there til the end and she throws in some wonderfully colorful descriptions of life and people in the south.

Keeps your interest

I enjoyed this book. It was my first Margaret Maron title and I felt pulled in by the characters as soon as I started listening. The narrator, C. J. Critt did a great job with all of the different voices. The plot moves along well and there are twists and turns along the way to keep your interest.

My complaint is that there are LONG pauses at edit points and at the end / beginning of chapters. So long that I thought my device had stopped working several times. There are also quotes that start each chapter that add nothing to the book. That said, I would still recommend a listen.

I love Maron.

I have now listened to a lot of Deborah Knott books. Good mystery and insightful stories of realistic court room sketches. Not the court rooms of Law and Order, for sure. Excellent reader/performance too.

Excellent series!

I’ve read every book Margaret Maron has written and this is probably the 4th or 5th time I’ve read her Judge Knott series! When I discovered audio books, I was so pleased she had chosen C. J. Critt as narrator! C. J. Critt is my favorite female narrator and now I search out the books she narrates! Reading Judge Knott series is like a wonderful welcome home when I need it most.

Fun Read

This is book five in the Knott series and we have Judge Deborah Knott substituting for a vacationing colleague in High Point, North Carolina. The author places the murder in the middle of the Furniture Market Show. There are lots of suspects including Knott. Knott runs into an old law school friend as well as lots of unusual characters.

The plot is full of twists and turns to keep the reader turning pages. There is southern hospitality, lots of furniture lore, industry jargon and realistic dialogue. C. J. Critt does a good job narrating the story. It is great they have kept the same narrator so far in the series.
