Publisher's summary
Over the coming days and weeks, the United States launched a joint military and intelligence operation with the Colombian government, assembling a team of expert personnel and an arsenal of state-of-the-art weaponry and surveillance technology the likes of which the world had never seen. Their mission: to track down Pablo.
But this time, they knew it would not be enough to just capture Escobar. This time, they would have to finish the job. This time, they were going to kill him.

Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s brutal Medellín Cartel was responsible for trafficking tons of cocaine to North America and Europe in the 1980s and ’90s. The nation became a warzone as his sicarios mercilessly murdered thousands of people - competitors, police, and civilians - to ensure he remained Colombia’s reigning kingpin. He was the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza, erroneously attributed to Cheops. Story
With billions in personal income, Pablo Escobar bought off politicians and lawmen, and became a hero to poorer communities by building houses and sports centers.

Good information about Pablo
I didn't know much about the doctor before I began listening to this book. You won't be on the edge of your seat the entire time however the book killing Pablo it's still very interesting to realize just how powerful one person was able to become fueled solely on the money made from an American vice.

Great story, didn’t like the author reading it
I really enjoy Mark Bowden’s books. This is the third I’ve read (Blackhawk Down, Hue) and enjoy his research and open perspectives he keeps in these stories.
I actually could have heard more details about Pablo and Columbia during his cocaine reign. The reader is the author and I wish it wasn’t. I think this would be better with a professional reader.

Worth a read
The story is inherently interesting- the rise and fall of one of the most successful, vicious criminals in world history. Bowden's a decent reader, though I would have liked to have gotten this story unabridged. Overall, a brisk, satisfying tale, though one you could get just as well through CNN or the History Channels adaptations.
