Publisher's summary

Using kings of the Old Testament as character studies, Steve Farrar examines the critical role a father plays in preparing his son to become a godly man. What separated the good kings from the bad kings was a father who made time commitments to mentor his son, by modeling biblical manhood. Do you want your son to become a man of regal character? Then this book is for you!

Wow! Steve Farrar hit this one out of the park!

As a grandfather, I listened to this book with more of a refresher in mind. I read Point Man in premarital counseling and have been a Steve Farrar fan ever since. I like his no nonsense style with analogies guys can relate to. I'm glad to say I felt like I hit most of these points as a dad but, of course, they're were some I realized I could have or should have done better. There were even a few things in this book I had never realized before. Overall, I wish I could give it six stars. This is one of my favorite books on fatherhood now and I plan to do everything I can to get my son to read or listen to it.

Fathering could be the greatest single challenge of your life.

A couple of quotes from the book I took note of
- "It may be hard for a father not to have a son but it is much hard for a son not to have a father"
- "The best leaders think far enough ahead to groom a replacement. That's what fathering is all about, it's mentoring and equipping their your son to become a man who will assume the family leadership for the next generation"

Overall this was a great book to get insight as to how to engage and teach my sons. I have 3 boys. The author points to many examples of biblical fathering, good and bad, and does a great job with personal examples as well. Lots of lessons to learn. I believe books like this one are essential for a father who wants to raise his son to have a biblical foundation. Every Christian father should read this. I also recommend Point Man which is the author's other book. He mentions it a few times in this book.

A Must for Fathers Raising Boys

This is a great follow up to Farrar's excellent book "Point Man". He gives practical, biblical advice that is needed to all fathers of boys. It really opened my eyes to how the world is pulling at our boys in the wrong direction and how I can correct that.

Everything I have read/listened to by Steve Farrar is excellent and this is no exception!
