La ciudad de las damas está considerada como la obra capital sobre la que se erige todo el pensamiento feminista occidental. Da inicio a la llamada «querella de las mujeres», un debate filosófico y literario que reivindica la posición femenina tanto en la ficción como en la vida real. La obra en sí realiza un listado pormenorizado de grandes damas de la historia, todas ellas habitantes de una ciudad alegórica en la que tienen el protagonismo que merecen. Cristina de Pizan o Christine de Pisan fue una filósofa y escritora nacida en Venecia en 1364 y fallecida en el monasterio de Poissy alrededor de 1430. Se la considera una de las precursoras del feminismo tal y como lo conocemos actualmente, impulsora de un debate literario que en su origen se denominó «la querella de las mujeres» y que supone una defensa de la altura moral, intelectual y humana de las mujeres tanto en la ficción como en la vida.
Cristina de Pizan o Christine de Pisan fue una filósofa y escritora nacida en Venecia en 1364 y fallecida en el monasterio de Poissy alrededor de 1430.
