Publisher's summary

The final "powerfully intense" (Romantic Times) Black Ops, Inc. novel from New York Times best seller Cindy Gerard, featuring a covert private security team and electrifying romantic suspense.

Black Ops, Inc. operative Joe Green is determined to bring to justice the man responsible for former team member Bryan Tompkins' death. He's convinced the ambush that killed Bryan was no coincidence but a setup. Unsure of the consequences of the battle he's about to start, Joe distances himself from both his Black Ops, Inc. team members and the woman he loves, Bryan's sister, Stephanie Tompkins. But Stephanie knows there must be some reason Joe broke it off, and when she hears Joe's charged with a murder in Sierra Leone, she wastes no time in breaking him out of prison. Then they must unravel the mystery behind the ambush and bring resolution to a long-ago betrayal.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Morais Almeida's deft pacing brings out the drama in this romantic suspense. Joe Green - a privately trained paramilitary operative - is captured in a third-world country. Stephanie Tompkins risks her own life to rescue Joe, who grieved for her brother when he was killed on a previous mission. In the opening scene, danger and high stakes are conveyed by Almeida's breathy, staccato delivery as Joe faces a grim outcome to his personal mission to uncover the truth behind the death of Stephanie's brother. Almeida portrays the military side of Green with a gruffness that contrasts well with the gentle, slower-paced tone the character falls into when he's with Stephanie. Similarly, Stephanie is richly portrayed with a softness that is especially loving and sweet with Joe. But Almeida also depicts Stephanie's fierceness when she finds herself in Sierra Leone, coordinating Joe's rescue. Almeida's range of modulations brings out the characters' myriad emotions, including bittersweet moments between Joe, Stephanie, and the boy soldiers who assist in Joe's rescue. Almeida's crisp enunciation also sharpens the gritty urban scenes, adding to the effectiveness of this listening experience." ( AudioFile Magazine)

ops group

The storyline was great. overall an awesome series. Then there's always a few moments of brave one minute and crying the next.
Now the narrator, most were great but for #4 in the series was a bit boring. Then there the worst one was the last. All the narrator were male until Big bad Joe Green turned girly , kinda suck.

Last man standing

The story line of the book is exactly what you come to expect if you have read/listened to the books in order. I understand why the narration is done by a women for this book, however I would have liked it better if a guy had read the “guy” parts. Also there was no changing of the voices or accents for the different that spoke. After hearing the guys voices and accents in the prior books I just really missed that.

So sad to end this.

I have absolutely loved this series! I wasn't ready for it to come to an end. I've laughed, cried and sat on the edge of my seat. I'm looking forward to starting another one of Cindy's books. I love the way she writes!

Strong Female Lead

This story highlights the tortured soul of a soldier but clearly focuses on a woman’ journey to strength. Loved it

Oh my!!!

Wow, I loved this story. I’m saddened though it’s the last one. Stephanie is a strong woman. I really like Joe. The man of a few words. You wouldn’t think Joe & Stephanie match but they do. Wow!!!

I love all the characters in Black Ops series. I enjoyed listening to all of them.

Nice Finish!

Loved, absolutely loved the way the author wrapped up this series. This last book was amazing. The switch into an unexpected narrator after all the narrator's before was interesting. I wondered why she did it, but then the perspective of the story told me everything. This was just a great way to end this series. Bravo, Cindy.

Recommended

I read several reviews that were negative due to the narrator and almost passed on finishing the series. I’m glad I didn’t. I found the narrator very pleasant and did a great job ending the series.
