Just couldn't quit.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest revie and I have to say, the plot was nonstop. I couldn't stop once I started and had to unravel, all the layers of the story. But, there was a sort of separation in the characters and the exchanges between them. Not sure if the narration had something to do with that, Niki and the other narrator did a wonderful job, but The male narrator almost didn't seem to fit the character and there were a few instances where the conversations and points of view seemed a little blurred because he read some of Mirranda's character stuff too, along with Martha and others, so it was hard to follow the different spots in the story. Overall though, good plot, good suspense and definitely one I wanted to see how it wrapped up. I want to read more by this author to see what else might be different. If you like a good mysdry with a few twists this is one for you. Enjoy and happy reading.

A flashback mystery with shocking plot twists

*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.*

3.5 stars.

Miranda gets to the house of a man who took care of her as a baby to find out about her birth family, but she ends up uncovering many mysteries and even danger for her life.

We follow several of the POVs involved in her story, which gives us different perspectives of the events that led to her mother's death and her being adopted. Characters are slowly developed and I found myself constantly interested in the story because nothing is given away too soon. The plot also includes a couple of twists and turns that caught me out of base.

Characters are clearly set and nobody's clean or perfect. I disliked all of them for different reasons, and found disturbing behaviours in most.

Overall, if you like a mystery with plot twists with properly developed characters and a dark plot, this book may be for you.

Layers - a dark thriller.

"As this story about murder, betrayal, and dark desires unfolds, things take an unsuspected turn...." This was thrilling, well crafted and fast paced story. A young woman, Miranda, is seeking information about her birth mother. She goes to the home of Dave, an older man whom she thought was her father. He gives her a diary to read.....and the story unfolds. The plot switches back and forth from the present day and the early 90's - before Miranda was born. There were a few surprises, some happy but short-lived moments. The narration was not very good. Steve Atkins-Linnell is a good reader but a bad actor. I didn't always know who was speaking because there was no difference in the narrator's voice. Overall, great story, not-so-great narration - but worth a listen! I received this free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

might have been an OK book

but there is something wrong with the recording. it jumps around, chapters repeat, Then the book just ends. The End. I wasn't sure what was going on half the time. At one point the sound deteriorates so badly I had to set the volume at the highest setting.
